I was surprised by the ending, and sad at how much of Beauty's life she lost along the way, but it was a really good book. And at least she got to lie next to her Giles at the end and sleep.
I was in the navy when I read that book, living in the steel hull of a ship, in an environment that bore a frightening resemblance to the time traveler's "apartment." I was dreaming of a different life, a "perfect" life, and putting way to much emotional stock in that dream. Imagine my shock when Beauty first returned from the land of the faeries. Yeah. I should find another copy and re-read it.
