So my and my mom's big project for the summer is cleaning out the attic. For years and years we've just been shoving crap in there, and now it's to the point where we've got no idea what's actually there and where anything is and it's just a mess. So today we started on it, with the idea of working an hour or so a day every morning this week.

Today we did one whole wall. Mom trashed all her old books from when she was in college. I found a box of my high school papers and assignments and trashed most of it (but I couldn't help but keep my AP US History stuff). We found craft stuff from the time when my mom and her friend Nancy decorated bears and tried to sell them at a craft fair. We found my Gammy's 1931 edition of Little Women and a whole bag of similar books, and a collection of holiday cards and postcards she'd kept from decades ago (including a postcard my mom sent on her high school trip to Bermuda). I found a bunch of old Lego sets. AND. I found a box of books! It had my old Indiana Jones novels, and it had my complete set of L.J. Smith novels (the Vampire Diaries series, things like that). And it had some of my old kid books. The New Bear in the Woods!! I actually had a dream about that book last fall. It's such a great little book and I had thought it was gone forever, but now I have it again! And the Gingerbears Christmas book, and Alonzo Purr the Seagoing Cat. Still haven't found Lamont the Lonely Monster, but I have high hopes for the rest of the attic.

So far we've produced four or five trash bags and at least two boxes of trash. We have a long, long way to go, but this morning we made a good start.

Yeah. I used to like the pirate sets and knight sets. I found one small knight set and one fairly large pirate hideout set. I didn't find the instructions for building either one, so I just dumped them altogether in the same box. I can't trash Legos.

A guy I knew in grad school had a two-bedroom apartment all to himself, so he used the second bedroom as The Lego Room. Sometimes people would go over just to play Legos with him. I always wished I had a collection like that!
