you know, there's something to be said for being awake at 9am on a saturday morning. there's probably even something to be said for being awake at 7:15am on a saturday morning, but i wasn't willing to say it when jorn got out of bed this morning.
anyway, his power's still out, for those of who were wondering. most of the nasty ice is in the process of melting, but there's still tree limbs all over the place that broke from the weight of the ice. at least the trees that were only bent over, not broken, are standing up again. and i'm guessing there's so many power lines down that the electric company is having a tough time putting it all back together again. jorn and i were pissed off last night, though, driving through his pitch-black neighborhood, when we went past three well-lit houses that all had their christmas lights on. i mean, really, it's nice you were spared the power outtage, but do you have to flaunt it?
i picked jorn up from work last night and we drove to chapel hill for the mc paul barman show, hoping against hope that by some miracle the duke power people were more effective in chapel hill than in greensboro. alas, when we arrived at the club (which is rather shadily located, i must say), all was darkness. we were sad. but we drove down W. Franklin St (well-lit) and found a good used book store, and then caught some dinner at the W. B. Yeats Irish Pub. kind of funny, that was. we tried a few different places, but everywhere seemed to be full of UNC-CH students watching The Game and drinking beer. some people wanted to watch The Game at the pub we were in, but apparently the cable was out, so the Game-watchers were disappointed. it was still a busy restaurant, but busy in a friendly way, and even though it took **forever** to get our food (we were waiting for a table at 8:40pm, and ate at around 9:30), we still heartily enjoyed the food. it was really good. reminder: i still owe jorn the money for dinner.
since élan is out of town visiting her boy, we didn't have to worry about waking her up or bothering her, so we folded down the couch and had a sleepover in my living room. it was surprisingly comfy, especially since we unzipped my sleeping bag and put that over the folded-flat couch. if jorn's power is still out tonight, we'll probably do that again.
the reason jorn woke up so early is because he wanted to go in to work today, make up some of the hours he lost in the snow. so i have the apartment all to myself. i finished my book (a Robin McKinley i had only read once before), had some breakfast, and soon i'll take a shower. maybe then i'll get some work done, hmm?
need a new print cartridge. phuck.
