Holy crap. This is one of the most amazing memoirs I have ever read. This chick's dad was an alcoholic and her mother sounds like she has a mental disorder; her parents' relationship was crazy and codependent, and they had the most wrong ideas about child rearing I've ever heard of, while at the same time demonstrating a really strong love for the kids. I don't want to tell you too much about this book because I think every single one of you should go out and read it, it's incredible. Every single chapter has some unbelievable thing that one or both of her parents did. And three of the four children went on to become successful adults functioning in society, while the parents ended up homeless in New York City. I thought it sounded awful when my mom told me about it, but once I started it I couldn't put it down. I can't recommend this book enough.
