another movie to put on my list: Wet Hot American Summer (thanks, suzie!).
about the potluck dinner--i'm bringing all the paper goods--plates, napkins, forks, knives, spoons, cups. and i'm also bringing a big ol' bowl of strawberry jello. everyone else is bringing homemade bread and eggplant parmigiana and shit, and here i am with my big tupperware bowl of jello. oh well. i like jello, and so does everyone else, even if they don't admit to it.
i'm at work now--job #1. i'm advising tons of poor lost undecided freshmen who don't know what their majors are or what classes they want to take next year. some of them are undecided because they like so many things and there's so many classes they want to take! those are the fun ones to talk to. then there's the kids who are undecided because nothing really suits them and they haven't done particularly well in anything and they don't have any special ambitions. those are the difficult, less fun advising appointments. i haven't had any of those this semester yet, but i've only been advising for three days now (registration's coming up, so we're having appointments april 1-20 or so--i do other things the rest of the time).
i like advising, though. i feel so competent and smart, and the freshmen look at me like, oh thank you! and i feel like i've helped someone today. although in comparison to many freshmen, a baboon would be competent and smart. :) but seriously, they make me (almost) wish i was a freshman again.
