Today's Scrabble game was excellent for me. Today I played with Tariq and Barbara--Kari's on her honeymoon, Lou was out to lunch with his dad, and Christina had friends in town, so it was just a small game. But I still rocked it. I started the game with WEAKEN, for 34 points. The next few moves were: SOAP (12 points), BAIZE (a kind of fabric, 19 points), MATED (16 points), ZING (18 points), BIPED (16 points), and WRY (17 points). So I was pretty solid all the way through--not spectacular, but nothing under 12 points, which is way more consistent than usual for me.

But then! Okay, so BIPED was sitting horizontally on the second line from the top, so that the triple word box was right above the P. And Tariq placed the Q above the I, to make QI (a word which gets played somehow almost every week). And he thought that would effectively block anyone from using the triple word, but no! Because I played QUA, which also scored me UP and AE vertically. Total points: 50.

On his next turn, Tariq played WED vertically off of WRY. I told him that that might not be a good idea and gave him a chance to change his mind, which he did not do, so I got to play UNLEADED. It only netted me 63 points with the bonus, but I was really pleased that I got to use all my letters. And Tariq had played DOMAINS earlier, so it was a two-bonus game. My final score was 265, which I think is a personal high for my Thursday games.

This was definitely a good game for me! I had some really good, really lucky moves that Tariq unwittingly set me up for, which was great, but I also played more consistently than I have recently, and that makes me glad. Usually my scores are all over the board, but most of my scores today were right in the high teens. I'd like to score consistently higher, but I'll settle for just consistent for now.
