supercheesegirl: (books - star paper)
Journal information: Published independently, twice yearly, from Greensboro, NC. Poetry and art only, no prose. http://www.cavewallpress.com

This is the first issue of a journal that my dear friend Rhett Iseman just started. I admit I was a bit skeptical at first, but damn, she did a good job with this. The journal itself is pretty; it's well-designed; there's not a typo in it. And the work in here is just terrific. I'm so impressed with the quality of the work she solicited for this issue. Fred Chappell's poems in particular are phenomenal. Not that one would expect anything less of Fred, but still. How that old gentleman can write an angst-ridden preteen girl so well I have no idea. Claudia Emerson's poems were terrific. I hadn't known she'd won the Pulitzer for poetry last year; I definitely need to pick up her new collection. And Dan Albergotti's poems were excellent too. I'd forgotten how delicate his poems are--by which I don't mean weak--rather, beautifully constructed, like spider webs. Reading some poems of his again has made me even more glad he won the BOA book prize. The whole issue is just well done and well put together. I am so proud and pleased that Rhett has done this and I hope it continues.

Conclusions: Heather and Jack should both send her stuff, as soon as she posts her submission guidelines. I can ask her when that'll be. In the meantime, there are some poems posted on the website and you should all go read them.
