Katherine Mansfield is so terrific. I think this was her first published short story collection. Thankfully, it does not include the story "Miss Brill" (which I inflicted on all of you a few months ago and you cried), so I enjoyed it immensely. Mansfield just has such a way with character, such a way of using simple words to precisely evoke a scene. She's excellent.
That makes 30 books so far this year! Now I can relax for a few days and enjoy some prose poems and Buffy comics (which I would do anyway, but now I can do it without worrying about making my total for the month, which is a stupid thing to worry about but I think about it anyway).
