For some reason, I can never manage to haul my ass out of bed before 7AM. If I get up at 6:30-6:45, I can catch the 8:11 train with plenty of time to eat breakfast and fix my hair and stuff, thus getting to work at 8:45. Which would be great, if I could ever do it. Instead, I whack the alarm for 54 minutes, drag out of bed at ten after 7, check email and LJ and QC and the weather, drag into the shower, suddenly realize that I'm awake at some point between email and toweling off, then begin a mad dash to get dressed and dry my hair and feed the cat and scoop the poo and have breakfast before racing out to catch the 8:36 train, which gets me to work at 9:15ish. Less ideal, because I'd rather be regularly early than regularly late, and also if I stupidly miss the train like I did on Monday, I am then condemning myself to the 9:07 train and being 45 minutes late. The 15 minutes late on the 8:36 train I don't mind so much, but 45 minutes late is not negligible and has to be made up somewhere. Overall, getting up at 6:30 would make my whole morning schedule easier.

There's another problem with the 8:36 train. The conductor who works the 8:36 train likes to talk. A lot. He's the Johnny Longbow of trains. All you really need to hear is "Next stop, Suburban Station" - short, quick, and to the point. What he says: "Next stop, Suburban Station. Suburban Station, Penn Center - 15th, 16th, and JFK, Suburban Station next. Please collect all your personal belongings before exiting the train." He does this for every major stop. And he'll add new stuff depending on the occasion: "Daylight savings time starts this Sunday. Don't forget to wake up at 2AM on Saturday night to set your clocks back. [Like anyone actually does that??] Don't want to be late for church on Sunday. Don't forget about Daylight savings time this weekend." or, "New R8 schedule starts on Sunday April 15. The new schedule will affect peak hour trains, so make sure to stop and get a new schedule. They'll have boxes of schedules out in the stations, make sure to pick one up." That's almost verbatim, I'm serious; we got the new schedule speech twice a ride for a full week before the change - and the 8:36 wasn't even affected! He seems like a nice and considerate man, but he just talks way too much. There is no need to say as much as he says to communicate the information he needs to communicate. Dude, STFU and let me read my book!

So, yes, taking the 8:11 train would be ideal in more ways than one. I either need to get to bed earlier or get more proactive about waking up. Which is difficult to do when I'm semi-conscious. Sigh.

Dude, it sounds like someone just likes the sound of his own voice.

I feel you on the waking up thing. I've been getting so cranky with myself because if I would just get UP when the alarm goes off at 6:30 instead of waiting until 7:30, I'd have plenty of time to get ready and wrestle with the kiddo to get her ready. Steev and I were up by 7:00 today and I was relatively on time. Just imagine how 6:30 will be. WOW.

Just remind your body that it's springtime now and getting up at 6:30 means you will have more time to enjoy the nice weather.

I was having some trouble with getting up recently--trying to get up by 6:15 am, but in reality getting up at 6:50. What finally did the trick for me (at least for now) was having to get up at frickin' 5 am on Sunday morning to go to the Golden Gate Bridge Walk. The next day, I woke up at 6:15 and it didn't seem early at all. Granted, it's only Wednesday so this experiment is a mere 3 mornings old, but it's been working so far.

Got a stereo in the other room? Does it have a wake function? One thing that used to work for me was to set set the regular bedside alarm, then set something loud and obnoxious to go off a few minutes later, something I had to physically get out of bed--and maybe even go into another room--to shut off.

Erin sets her alarm on the gospel station at A&T, because it's obnoxious enough to get her moving so she doesn't have to listen to it any more.

My sleep patterns have changed and I don't have as much trouble waking up any more, but in the past I found it made all the difference to get myself out of my loft. At that point, after I had shut off the horrific claxon that got me out of bed, it was less trouble to stumble to the shower than to climb back into my loft.

If you don't already have a stereo or something you can set to get you out of bed, the solution may be as simple as a cheap clock radio in the bathroom. Set it on the horrible pop station or the horrible Nashville country station or the horrible death-metal station (you get the gist), and set it LOUD! By the time you've stumbled into the bathroom to shut that shit off! you're right there by the shower.

And of course, it always helps to get to bed early enough. *hug!*
