so i think i've pretty much decided that i'm going to the AWP Conference in Baltimore. david bowen and carl have a hotel room that they've offered to share with me, so it won't be too expensive--if i'm careful i think i can do the four-day conference with under $250. $33/night for hotel for four nights, plus conference registration ($45), plus food, chipping in for gas, my aquarium admission, and of course books from the conference and postcards to send.
i've been looking at the schedule of events, and there are going to be some interesting sessions (although not as many as there were last year, and some seem a bit repetitive--several on poetry in translation, several on community college writing programs?). the ohio folks are going, including adam t cole and stina, and i know stina at least will actually want to hang out with me. (katie's probably going too, but after last year i know better than to expect to even have a drink with her). a bunch of writers i "know" will be there, AND... GAR will be there! just on friday and saturday, but still. i'm psyched to see gar. and he told me he has THREE new books coming out in the next year! how exciting for him. yay, gar.
so i think it'll be worth it to go to AWP this year, and it'll be really fun, and not too expensive. i think i'm going to go.
