I just caught the last 20 minutes of The Two Towers on TBS. Those goddamn Rohirrim make me cry every single time. Just hearing the Rohan theme music makes me tear up. I love the Lord of the Rings movies so much. (I don't, however, love the TBS commercials, one of which features clips of Frodo and Sam walking through Mordor to "5000 Miles" by the Proclaimers, another of which features Pippin picking up a sword and saying "They don't expect me to fight... do they?" to wacky music--as if these movies are some sort of slapstick bullshit. Worst commercials EVER.)

I am trying Jess's chai recipe. It's simmering right now. I used my biggest pot instead of a two-quart one, so I improvised a bit and tossed in some kind of random amounts of the ingredients, but the way my apartment smells right now, I can't have gone wrong!

I know! Those ads really piss me off! I am almost expecting them to mash together so Sam/Frodo scenes to a Village People song. WTF?

What is this chai recipe you speak of? I love chai, but it's so expensive, I"d love to be able to make my own! Can you share the recipe?

I just emailed it to you. Jess originally posted it on her LJ, but she posted it friends-only for some reason, but that's okay because I had made a Word file of it anyway so I could print it out.

I had to buy a jar of cloves and a jar of cardamom pods, both of which were a lot more expensive than you'd think. But I now have two 3/4 full jugs of chai in my fridge, and plenty of cloves and cardamom to last me a while. The cloves in particular seem pretty inexhaustible. The other stuff in it, like peppercorns and ginger root and cinnamon sticks and tea bags, are all pretty easily and cheaply procured, so I think it's worth the initial financial investment to make it--provided you've got the time to hang around the house and let it simmer.

I've found that getting spices in my foreign foods aisle is sometimes cheaper that the spice aisle. Of course we have a huge thai and indian section at my kroger so there's lot so yummy spices in bags (so you have to put it in tupperware) for cheap!

LotR is so damn addictive. After reading your post, I really want to put them in the dvd player and spend all afternoon watching.

How did the chai turn out? Can't wait to try some.

I once hosted a party where we watched all three extended edition LotR movies back to back. We started at 10AM with doughnuts and finished up around 10PM. It was AWESOME. I so want to do that again, but I don't think my TV is big enough, or that I have enough friends who would want to join me. Plus the weather's nice enough I want to be outside. So maybe this fall.

Haven't tried the chai yet--I'm low on milk, actually, after making pancakes for my parents for breakfast. Hopefully I'll get some milk tomorrow and then can see how it turned out. I sipped a little plain and it was okay, but I think it's going to be really good iced with milk. I'll get a decent-sized thing of milk so there will be plenty for both of us to have chai this weekend. :)

Okay, I'm really quite jealous of your LotR marathon. Now that I've confessed one envy, I'm going to move on to envying your chai. Wow, that sounds kind of dirty when typed out.

Me too. Every time I catch that film I am lost in the time suckage zone. Ditto the crying. Ditto the music. The Rohirrim just amaze me.
