1: I'll respond with something random about you.
2: I'll challenge you to try something.
3: I'll pick a color that I associate with you.
4: I'll tell you something I like about you.
5: I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6: I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7: I'll ask you something I've always wanted to ask you.
8: If I do this for you, you should post this in your journal. (You don't *have* to, but it's fun.)

Psst. I will probably not post this in my LJ, because I am a meme slacker - and I have a doozy of a meme that I want to do soon that I need to post, so that'll be my meme quote for a while - but anyway: ME ME ME! :D

Date: 2007-05-14 05:41 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] supercheesegirl.livejournal.com
1: This is a hard one, since you're kind of the queen of random. But okay, um, hummus will always remind me of you.
2: You should try... writing Heroes fanfic. Once you get more into Heroes, of course. I would read any Heroes fic you wrote.
3: Green. Definitely a nice foresty green.
4: I like your hair, and your wacky socks, and your slightly crazed laugh. :)
5: The first I remember you is in the intro to fiction class, which was fall of my sophomore year/your junior year. But I had to have run into before that, I'm sure.
6: Hmm. I would say you remind me of some sort of herbivore--usually content just chillin' and grazing, but on occasion riled up enough to stampede. :)
7: Since you're probably not going to repost this meme, I'll ask, what's your first memory of me?

Date: 2007-05-14 08:00 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] pocketwitch.livejournal.com
1. Hee! Queen of random, eh? Why hummus?

2. Check out the meme I posted today - it's the doozy I mentioned above. You could, you know, suggest some things. ;D

6. Hee hee hee! That's fitting, given I've recently been named an evil sheep ...

7. The first time I remember you was in Detective Fiction with Dr. Roth, which was, I think, your freshman year and my sophomore year. I think that was the first time I met you, actually; I remember the first time we talked you had your hair pulled back into a ponytail and you had on doc martens and I thought you seemed really cool.

1. Because you made me hummus in the caf once--you were so excited to show me the wonders of hummus, but it kind of didn't work without a food processor. :) Also, the amazing hummus at King Tut's.

2. Oh, I don't know. Maybe. I'm bad at coming up with ideas for fanfic. If I was better at it I'd probably write some myself. :)

7. That was a pretty awesome class! I forgot you were in that. I remember liking the Jewish detective book, but I did my presentation with Eric Fisher and that really cute girl on the Chicano book. I totally can't think of her name now, either, but she was in your year, english/bio double major, brown hair and glasses. Oh, and I still have the Docs, but I hardly ever wear them anymore. They were pretty much a staple my freshman year, though. :)

1: A random Jerod fact? I love that you play the theramin.
2: You should try... getting a job, you hippie! :)
3: It used to be black, but now I think you're more of a nice clear deep blue.
4: I like your laidback attitude, and I like your determination to succeed with music.
5: Spoons of mild discomfort.
6: I think you're a cat of some sort--not necessarily a housecat, but some sort of cat.
7: Did you really actually like that horrible shirt with the clown and the balloons, or were you just pretending to like it to be ironic and cool?

2. I totally just had a job at Eckerd's pharmacy again, but my manager and I walked out together on Friday because we were fed up with taking shit from district management. I was the only cashier on duty that day, and I didn't even put my drawer away. He handed the keys to the pharmacist and we walked out together! It was so badass, you should have been there. So yeah. Now I need a new job. It was worth it, though. Very empowering.

7. That's the beauty of it. I don't really know! I think a bit of both.

1: Random item: I don't think we ever had any classes together. Did we?
2: You should try... my couscous salad. So delicious!
3: Purple!
4: I like that you want to save the world.
5: I probably first encountered you in the WRC. I could have met you through Mel (because Sarah B was friends with Mel) or Wolfe, but I think it was the WRC or something womanly.
6: Maybe a dog--one that is faithful and sweet and a good mom to her puppies, but also can be fierce if provoked.
7: How did you end up going to business school?

1: Random: soap into wine! That's awesome!
2: You should try... making that chai. It made my whole house smell good.
3: Red. With white polka dots. (I am reminded of you every time I put on my red polka-dot panties.)
4: I so admire that you're so handy and can build things. I think that rocks.
5: First memory of you: I'm sure I had met you before this, but I think I first remember you dating Miles. That was pretty funny.
6: A woodland creature, I think. Maybe a beaver? Stop laughing. Beavers are warm and furry, and also build cool things.
7: Wanna make out?

1: Random: I so wanted to take your Philosophy of Star Trek class but it just didn't work with my schedule.
2: You should try... are you watching Heroes? If not, you should try watching it, because it's great. Otherwise... darn, this is hard. You were my teacher, I'm used to you challenging me!
3: You're purple for sure.
4: I like your sense of humor!
5: Paul brought me to your house to watch Dr. Who. You and TODS were so nice even though you'd never met me before.
6: A friendly squirrel? Or an elephant, because they're very smart.
7: Do you miss SU?

1: Random: I so wanted to take your Philosophy of Star Trek class but it just didn't work with my schedule.

I would have LOVED to have had you in it. :-)

2: You should try... are you watching Heroes? If not, you should try watching it, because it's great.

I saw the pilot at REVELcon and it was cute. I liked Hiro, and while I wasn't surprised at one of the Big Surprises near the end, I was genuinely surprised by the other. I guess it just didn't quite hook me enough to start watching it. Maybe I'll try again at MediaWest*Con; I'm sure someone will be pimping it there!

3: You're purple for sure.

Thanks! I like that!

4: I like your sense of humor!

:-)

5: Paul brought me to your house to watch Dr. Who. You and TODS were so nice even though you'd never met me before.

I totally forgot that! I thought we first met in whatever class you first took from me. That is really cool.

6: A friendly squirrel? Or an elephant, because they're very smart.

Well, elephants never forget, or so they say... so maybe I should stick with the squirrel. Either way, I like!

7: Do you miss SU?

That's a really tough question. It was an important part of six years of my life, and yet in some ways I don't miss it.

I don't miss being made to feel like a subpar outsider; I don't miss watching TODS being belittled so openly that I didn't even realize till later how poorly I was being treated as well. It's very telling that of all the faculty members I knew when I was there, there are really only two whom I could consider friends, and neither one of them is there now. (Dr. Mowry and Dr. Zeck) I did like the chaplain very much and have exchanged a note or two with him.

I have kept in touch with a number of students, but it's not quite right to say I miss them as part of missing SU; no matter where you teach, you're going to miss students anyway because the darn critters keep graduating! I'll admit that at this time of year (final exam grading) I do miss the level of preparation most SU students had for college; I have many students now who simply cannot write a coherent sentence to save their lives. I also miss the way we did advising there; where I teach now we don't have that same mentoring relationship with our advisees, and we can't just call a student's advisor when that student is having trouble in our classes, the way we would at SU. We both got a lot of experience at SU that's been invaluable where we are now.

There's a lot I miss about Selinsgrove - dear friends we made outside of SU, the pastor and other friends from chuch, the fabulous dojo in Sunbury - but the more I reflect on SU, the more I realize that I was unhappy there and my primary sensation when I walked away from the tenure battle was relief. I lived there for two years after I left and I was surprised how little urge I felt to return. So I guess I'll say that I miss a lot of things about Central PA, but SU just isn't one of them.

Date: 2007-05-15 10:58 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] supercheesegirl.livejournal.com
Aw, El Profesor! I liked Dr. Mowry, but was always a bit intimidated by him. I'll always remember giving directions to the library in Spanish, though. Jeannie Zeck was a dear friend to me too. Do you still hear from her? It's been a while since I've had a Christmas card update.

I'm sorry you had such a negative experience at SU. It seems so strange to me that you and TODS would feel belittled and have problems getting tenure when you're some of the nicest people I know and also such excellent teachers who were loved by the students. I remember SU as such a friendly place, but I was seeing it from a very different perspective. I'm glad that you're in a happier place now--even if your students aren't as excellent as I was. :)

Yeah, why not. I'll possibly even post it in my journal...it may take a little while to get back to people though - fair warning.

1: You totally liked America's Next Top Model and just didn't want to admit to it.
2: You should try... visiting Philly more often!
3: Green. Like that skirt.
4: I like that you're so warm. It was awfully convenient, since I'm always cold.
5: Peeling your hands and listening to Tori.
6: You're definitely a cat. Now get off the roof.
7: Most of the questions I can think of are completely inappropriate to ask in this forum, so... when do you finish massage school?

Date: 2007-05-15 09:03 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] qua.livejournal.com
1. I get sucked into TV so easily (especially bad TV) that I just have to avoid it. It's not really a question of liking it... I would also like to add that it was one of the few things that we would do together alone (since no one else in the house would stoop to watching ANTM.) I enjoyed sitting on the couch with you, but that's pretty much aside from what was on the TV.

2. I should, you're right. I haven't been there in years. Perhaps one day I will pass through. You'll be sure to get a phone call.

3. Yeah, I used to love that skirt. I haven't worn it in so long.

4. They don't call me 'the furnace' for nothing.

5. Ah, the peeling hands. How could I forget?

6. That was too easy.

7. I finish school in February. At which point I will have a certificate and hopefully have passed the test for National Certification. Then I get to do fun stuff like figure out licensing and business plans. woohoo.

1: Random: The striped shirt you're wearing, in the pictures from AWP? That's a pretty ugly shirt. :)
2: You should try... my chai, when you get here this weekend! I'm sure I'll think of lots of other things for you to try as well.
3: That burnt red sunrisey color in your default icon.
4: I like your nose. :)
5: Meeting you for the first time at Lani and Dings and Kelly's reading party. We talked for a really long time.
6: A bird.
7: There are too many things I want to ask you! Um, what five books would you take if you were stranded on a desert island?

2. I accept your challenge, now you just have to save me some!
7. -Milan Kundera's "The Unbearable Lightness of Being"
-Gabrial Garcia Marquez's "100 Years of Solitude"
-Pablo Neruda's Collected Poems
-Larry Levis' Selected Poems
-Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Nearly Everything"

Oh man, this is going to be hard.

1: Random: secret of mana?
2: I challenge you to try visiting Philly! :)
3: Blue, maybe. Black, red. I appear to associate you with simple primary-type colors.
4: I could just say I like your sense of humor and be done (and that wouldn't be a lie), because this is hard, not actually knowing you for real, but I feel like I like how you approach the world. In pictures of you, and pictures you take, and even the way you talk about cooking, you seem like you appreciate the beauty in things. I like that.
5: I remember when you first applied to the NUG community. I remember you posted a picture of you in a shirt that Robert Sledge also owns. That was a long time ago!
6: A wolf! I don't know why. Although you seemed to really share a moment with that preying mantis...
7: Have you been taking pictures lately? I miss seeing your photography posts.

SECRET OF MANA

i think i shall visit, possibly soonish, the end of the summer, or maybe in the fall. i like it cold.

personally, my favorite color is orange.

the beauty in things? mm, yes. you're nice and pretty.

and i still have that shirt. i wore it last week!

haha, a wolf? my my, what would freud think?

and i have been taking some pictures lately, but not very many. i'm hoping to fix that soon, now that i have a steady work schedule.

Date: 2007-05-15 11:01 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] supercheesegirl.livejournal.com
Orange was always my favorite color as a kid. Then I got older and realized it looks pretty awful on me, but I still have this obnoxiously orange fleece pullover that I love.

I would love to have you visit, whatever season you choose.

You have a steady work schedule? Are you still just doing choir stuff, or do you have a new restaurant job?

Date: 2007-05-15 01:19 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] igorxa.livejournal.com
i have a new restaurant job. i'm working lunch at a place called the beauty shop. it's an old 40's beauty shop converted into a restaurant. GREAT food. as soon as i'm trained well enough, i'm on my own for lunch. i'm kinda nervous about that.

Date: 2007-05-15 05:37 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] supercheesegirl.livejournal.com
You'll totally rock! And that's cool to just be doing lunches and have your evenings free.

1: I'm so glad the first time I went skinny dipping was with you.
2: You should try... my favorite honey mustard salmon recipe. I can send it to you!
3: Definitely warm colors. Browns and greens, but also nice friendly mauves and pinks too.
4: I can't limit myself to just one thing I like about you, so here's several: I like your free spirit, and your drive to be a good teacher, and your creativity, and your great taste in books. And I like and am jealous of the way you can stick bobby pins in your hair and have it come out looking awesome.
5: First memory of you? Um. I think the first time I met you was going to the playground at the elementary school with a big bunch of people, fall my freshman year.
6: One time at the circus there was an elephant painting a picture with a brush in her trunk, and she looked like she was enjoying it so much! I wouldn't ordinarily peg you as an elephant, but she was such a happy, artistic elephant!
7: This is a hard one. What five books would you take if you were stranded on a desert island?

Date: 2007-05-16 02:28 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] sheseesbackward.livejournal.com
1. yay skinny dipping! god, i love it SO much!
2. please do send that to me--i'm so into cooking fish these days.
3. yay colors!
4.thank you. although i have to say, i haven't been super creative with my hair lately...only because i'm trying to be more "professional"
5.oh wow, i loved that playground. i love playgrounds in general...i don't go to them as often as i would like.
6. that's funny, i think...
7. this is SO hard. i might have to get back to you. although right off the top of my head i'm going to say "I Know this Much is True" by Wally Lamb and "The History of Love" by nicole kraus. i'll have to think about the rest.
