so this morning, i looked at all the poems i'm reading tomorrow. i printed out a clear copy of each one in a large font, so i won't have to squint to read them. i also typed up what i want to say to introduce each poem, and i printed out the intros in the aforementioned large font, each on a separate sheet so i don't have to flip back and forth. so i now have, on paper, every word i'm going to say tomorrow night.

as of right now, i'm planning on reading the entire five-part saint augustine series. it's basically five poems, and i wasn't sure that i wanted saint augustine to take up that much room in my reading. my other options, though, were either poems that i didn't feel like reading or that aren't as solid as they should be, and i think i'd rather read the full saint augustine series than read sub-par stuff, since the saint augustine series (while still needing more work) is really good in its present form. also, to read any of the saint augustine stuff, i'll need to give a rather lengthy intro (ie, why i care about saint augustine, what the back story is, what are things that happen in the poem that you need to know about ahead of time, etc). and if i'm giving a lengthy intro anyway, i might as well just read the whole thing--it would be silly to give a lengthy intro for only one or two poems.

so here's the list of poems i'm reading, in case you care:
1. Tanz (the carmina burana poem)
2. chicken (the Boston Market poem)
3. Lift (the weird dude at the gym poem)
4. Bruise (the odd new poem about, you guessed it, a bruise)
5. Unsent (the poem about sending postcards to my grandma)
6. Postcard from Salzburg (the one about my mom and the Sound of Music)
7. Unnamed Woman, sections 1-5 (Saint Augustine et al.)
8. For our Anniversary, We Go to the Circus (my newest tender love poem... aw)
9. Across the Room (the one about jorn NAKED!!!)

i think the structure is good--i'm starting off with the poems that have a lot of energy and are more humorous, so that should get me off to a good start. then the postcard poems, which will make my mom cry (i try to do that at every reading). then sudden transition to saint augustine, which is more serious stuff, and ending on two sweet love poems because it's valentine's day and i can.

hopefully that will take me through about 20 minutes. i'm going to read the long poem to elan tonight (with the intro) and see what she thinks--maybe it's too long to read the whole thing. but i worked so hard on it, and it's so good. it deserves to be read.

stuart said that when reading for about 20-25 minutes, i should choose about 12 poems. and i listed 9, but really it's more like 13 since the saint augustine one counts as five poems. so i should be right on track, i think. i'm nervous. i hope i can go first and get it over with.
