supercheesegirl: (wordy - scrabble putrid)
We had so many people for Scrabble today that we had to split into two groups! Luckily, we had two Scrabble boards. Jean, Christine, and Karen's daughter Monica played a game, and I played with Kari (back from maternity leave), Tariq, and Lou. It was a really fun game. I was pretty proud of my game today:

- skipped the first turn for lack of vowels
- JET (18 points)
- SWIRLY / BY (31 points; possible only because Lou agreed to trade me an I for my V, because I still didn't have any vowels)
- QUART (15 points; at which point Lou commented on how neat it would be if somebody had a Z or a ERS or a ERLY to put on the end of it)
- TRAWL (16 points)
- QUARTZ / ZA (37 points; because I got the Z and Lou had given me the idea; ZA is a word in the dictionary, it's short for pizza; and Kari was going to play the ERS on her next turn and land it on the triple-word so I totally snuck in ahead of her)
- DUCK / DE (25 points)

Lou used all his letters first, so after I subtracted six points for what was left in my hand, I had a final score of 136. Tariq beat me with a 163, then Kari had 115 and Lou 113. So it was a fairly close game. I love Scrabble Thursdays.

It's in the Scrabble dictionary, I swear! Which edition do you have?

I'm going to be so mad at myself if it turns out I cheated. I swear, I swear I saw that word in there before!!

i always use the online scrabble dictionary at scrabble.com. i haven't seen a hard copy in years. i never thought to use "za" because i always thought there was an apostrophe in front of it. but i didn't mean to ruin your scrabbleness!

OK, I just checked my Scrabble dictionary here at home (the 4th edition), and it's in there. I feel better now. :)
