so things are busy here at work. i've already advised five students this morning; i have three more to go before yoga class this afternoon. i'm kind of hungry.

i went to an awesome poetry translation session yesterday--john balaban, who translates the work of Ho Xuan Huong, an 18th century vietnamese concubine. she was apparently an incredibly talented poet--could create poems in complex forms with sophisticated rhyme patterns off the top of her head--and in addition could give wild erotic undertones to the poem, which just was not done back then. even in her own day and age, people didn't believe she really existed because the poems were just so sexy. for example, she'd write a poem about some mountains and a cave and some trees, but beneath the exterior of the poem would be WILD SEX. i was so impressed. and she was political too--she lived during a time when there was constant warfare in her country. i'm having one of my special moments when i want to learn a new language so i can read her actual words.

okay, next appointment is here. i just want to say quickly that we finished the third season of buffy last night and now i am sad because i have no buffy to watch. but rhett and i are going to go back and watch all the special features and the commentary, so that'll be something to tide me over till we can get season four and/or angel season one. woot.
