This was a lot of fun. A graphic novel that uses all the Marvel superheroes, like Spiderman and the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, putting them in a universe where events transpired differently so that all these folks were born 400 years too early. I think I probably would have enjoyed it more if I was a comic book freak--I recognized most of the characters, but most of my superhero knowledge comes from movies rather than the original comics, so I know I was missing out on a lot, and there were definitely characters I didn't know and felt like I should have (Strange and Fury, particularly, and whatever was going on with Strange's wife was completely over my head). Probably would have enjoyed the book more deeply if I had more background, but it was still a really fun read. Well, of course it was, it's a Gaiman book.

there are "cheat sheet" websites out there for 1602 -- i'm at work so i don't have a particular one to recommend, but if you're interested enough then use the google. there are people who have compiled notes for those of us who don't get all the marvel references. of course, if you don't care, ignore this.
