More Heroes thoughts: Adam

Okay, I've been doing some thinking about Adam. In the post I made last night, I was all, oh Adam/Peter = hottt!!1 And I completely forgot that Adam is Hiro's sworn enemy and a total bad guy! I think Adam's real power is that he is absolutely fucking charming. He doesn't just heal, he charms his own body! His body's all, oh okay, we can heal that sword wound, but just because we have such a rakishly handsome grin.

Okay but seriously. Thoughts on Adam:
- He seems to have told Peter that he's been alive straight through for the past 400 years. Which is exactly what I predicted.
- If all Adam can do is heal, then why was Bob all "oh he's so dangerous"? See, his real power must be charmingness!
- How much of recent events was Adam really behind? The timeline of their prison breakout fits in with when the Company Founders death threats started happening.
- I can't decide if Adam is really Peter's friend here. Adam promised to heal Nathan, and then he actually did it. That speaks well to Adam's intentions towards Peter. Does Adam know that Peter and Hiro are friends?
- If Adam is really the power behind the recent events, is he just a power-hungry creep, or is it all a big plot to get to Hiro? I am leaning towards the idea that it's been 300 years and Adam's moved on to bigger things, and therefore he's going to be really fucking surprised when Hiro shows up to thwart him again.
- Does Adam know that Nakamura is Hiro's dad? Obviously he would have known Nakamura back in the day 30 years ago, but was Adam still out and about when Hiro was born? How common of a name is Nakamura, anyway?
- If they've been making Adam take the anti-power pills, then wouldn't he have been aging for 30 years?

Okay, I am really liking Adam's character arc here. I completely didn't see any of this coming, but it feels really natural, and I think he's an excellent choice (as an actor and as a new character) and I totally can't wait to see what happens next. The rakishly handsome grin has nothing at all to do with my feelings on this. Not at all.

I really wish they could make a "30 years ago" episode. See all the Company Founders when they were young and pretty and idealistic. Hiro could even jump back and hang out with his younger dad, that could be the premise of it. But it would probably be hard to do from a production standpoint, since you'd have to recast almost all those characters with younger actors, and I don't know that it'd be possible to to get younger actors who could do a convincing Mama Petrelli or Papa Nakamura. But I really wish they could work a "30 years ago" arc into the storyline. I also really want to know how Nichelle Nichols is involved. She's got to be more than just a distant relative of DL's, she's way too awesome to be just a bit player in this.

The thing that hit me hardest about the revelation that Adam is still alive in the present (after being blown up b/c he was too pissed to let Hiro save him) is that...um...he didn't die. And since he and Claire seem to have the same powers, then it's not merely healing! It's fricking immortality!

Then Bob called Claire's power "cellular regeneration" very casually in one episode. I think the writers have very subtly announced that Claire cannot die.

Which means Peter cannot die either, since he can do everything Claire can do.

And it also struck me that Peter is more powerful than Sylar, since Sylar must kill someone to acquire their power and Peter can just be standing around and wind up extra endowed. (ahem.)

Yeah, I think it's pretty sure now that Claire and Peter both can't die. Both of them have lived through nuclear/radioactive explosions, too. I wonder what would happen if you cut their heads off? Would their heads regenerate? I mean, that spot on the back of the head is the sensitive spot, like when Claire and Peter each almost died because of a projectile embedded in the back of the head. I bet you could kill them if you knew how.

Also, I really enjoy thinking about Peter's extra endowments.

Don't read this unless you saw last night's (Nov. 19) episode!

About the projectiles embedded in Claire's and Peter's heads: yeah, that is a weak spot. However, all you need to do is remove the foreign object and poof--fine.

Which was manifested in a new way last night with Noah Bennett.

I'm very, very excited by the implication last night that Claire's blood (and now perhaps Peter's?) can cure someone of a bullet to the brain, regenerate their eye, and essentially bring them back from the dead. Wonder if now Nathan will also be immortal or nearly-immortal because he's had a shot of Adam's blood?

That also implies that no way was Bob ever planning to get a transfusion of Claire's blood for Nikki. Who would want to make someone as unstable as Nikki immortal?

Wonder how much of Claire's blood is required to bring someone back from the dead? Noah was further gone than Nathan was. We saw Adam inject a little blood into Nathan's IV, but who knows how much blood Bob took from Claire.

The other thing is that we're starting to see that perhaps there are not an infinite number of powers. After all, couldn't Matt's mind-reading power be the same as that chick from Season 1 who was described as "very persuasive"? She'd talk in a funny voice and then people went and did whatever she commanded. She infiltrated Suresh's apartment and spied on Mohinder. Disremember her name. Anyway, maybe there are a finite number of powers that manifest a little differently in various people. I find that a tad disappointing, though I guess the writers keep promising that the characters' stories will "converge" and that's certainly one way of doing it.

Still, though, wtf is Mama Petrelli's power?

I think the healing blood is a temporary thing, not a permanent one. I don't think Nathan or Noah will be immortal now--the blood that their own bodies naturally produce will not be the special blood, and the special blood will eventually work its way out of their systems. Claire, Adam, and Peter, though, produce that blood naturally, which makes for the immortality.

We don't know how much blood Bob took from Claire--he could conceivably have taken enough to heal Noah and Nikki both. Although judging from the previews, he didn't (based on what Nikki was saying to Micah).

Yeah, we are starting to see powers repeat themselves, which is a little disappointing. But I don't think Matt's power is the same as Persuasive Voice Chick's power. Her power was entirely vocal, while Matt's is mental. The powers could have similar effects depending on how they're used, but technically still different powers.

I theorized a while back that Mama Petrelli did persuasion (or influence, which is subtler) too. Recently we've seen her take someone's arm or hand (in a motherly way) and convince them of something. She did that to Nathan's wife Heidi during the flashback episode, and she did it to Peter in the future when she helped him to remember some things. I'm wondering if that's what she does. If so, it could be more of an emotional thing, rather than a mental thing, which would distinguish it from Matt's mental ability.

I'm really upset that Kaito Nakamura died without us finding out what his power was. That's very disappointing.
