Had a very nice yoga practice tonight. Worked on all my strength-building stuff. I also was able to get straight legs in revolved triangle for the first time in ages--I have freakishly long legs so I can hardly ever manage that. Overall, it was really nice to come back to a solid yoga practice after only doing jammie yoga all week. I'm looking forward to getting back in the groove!

I'm majorly peeved at the season finale of Heroes. Read more... )

F and I are about halfway through season 2 of Buffy. We just watched "Phases", which is a fun episode. F thinks he knows all about what's going to happen, but he totally doesn't.

The Chuck season finale was awesome. The wedding sequence, with Mr. Roboto and the fight and the ice sculpture, was all so perfectly done. It was wonderful. I'm a little concerned about the ending, though--Read more... )

I am now officially caught up on Heroes and LOST. We missed last week's episodes, and I had been really worried that I wouldn't have time to catch up and would be really behind. But we're caught up!

on yesterday's LOST )

On this week's Heroes: I like the FishMan, he's cool. I feel a tiny bit bad for Bennett, but only a tiny bit. The last five minutes KICKED ASS. Nicely done, gentlemen.

In other TV news, F and I are watching Buffy. He's never really seen it. We watched "Welcome to the Hellmouth" and "The Harvest". I had forgotten that the show opened with Darla biting someone. Also, I was excited to see that the very first person to die in the entire series was played by someone I recognized: Carmine Giovinazzo, who is now playing Danny on CSI: New York. Exciting! I'm also really enjoying seeing the show from the beginning all over again. So much awesomeness ahead! F isn't hooked yet, but he will be.

In movie news, I saw Mamma Mia! last weekend. My friend Signe had a karaoke birthday party and that's what we watched. I actually really loved the movie! It was so over the top. The boys in the swim fins! Awesome.

F and I also went to see Coraline in 3D last weekend. Completely awesome. I recommend that all of you go see it in 3D. You've got probably a week more to catch it before it leaves the 3D theaters and the Jonas Brothers movie starts, so get on that, ok, y'all? It's totally worth it.

Here's my new fit thing. I'm definitely gaining weight right now, because I don't have a gym and it's winter so I don't go outside. So I've decided that whenever I can, I will get off the train two stops early and walk home from St. Martins station. That gives me about a 20 minute walk, and gets me home only around 10 minutes later than usual. If I take the train straight home, it's only a quick walk into my apartment, and then I don't want to go out in the cold again, but if I get off the train early, then I must walk outdoors even if it's cold out. I think this is a pretty brilliant idea, and I plan to implement it whenever it's not actively snowing/raining and whenever I'm not wearing inappropriate clothes/shoes. I did it Monday and Tuesday and it was very nice.

I did yoga when I got home Monday night. It was a nice practice. Listened to Lotus, which is still my perfect yoga album. I also just did around 45 minutes of yoga today, and it was also lovely. I can feel my arms getting stronger. More frequent practice really makes a difference! But I don't think Secret Chiefs 3 is a good band for yoga. A little too loud and chaotic.

I went to NYC this weekend. I saw Equus on Broadway, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Kate Mulgrew. It was excellent! I was so involved in the story and the acting that at no time did I think, "LookitsHarryPotterspenis!" In fact Daniel Radcliffe was not like Harry Potter at all. I feel proud of him! Go Daniel Radcliffe, establishing yourself as an actual real actor!

F booked his flights to come to PA for Christmas, and he helped me book flights to go out to California for New Years. The holidays are going to be awesome this year. I was even able to order a poinsettia from my church at the last minute! (They sell poinsettias to decorate the church, and then you can pick them up after the Christmas Eve service and take them home. Mine last year lasted for a month and was huge and beautiful!) My parents are awesome, F is awesome, and things in general are pretty awesome.

Except for Heroes, that is. Read more... )

My friends just came over to watch Heroes! They ate the food I made and they liked it. I had made applesauce and hummus and chai, and I had got nice bakery bread to dip in the hummus and nice chips and salsa. The applesauce turned out particularly well--I wish I remembered what kind of apples I bought. I don't think the hummus was as good as the last time I made it--too much tahini--but Julius commented on how nice it was to finally find someone who made hummus with enough tahini. :) They also admired all my books. I like it when people eat my food and admire my books.

I went to the podiatrist this morning and she didn't do anything that will make me limp! So exciting!

On Heroes )

In other news, the Evil Superfresh that is the closest grocery store to my house is now a PathMark. Not sure yet if the PathMark is evil or not. On one hand, it's shinier, and in some ways is organized better, and seems to be a bit cheaper. On the other hand, the bread aisle is very poorly set up--too narrow! Everyone buys bread, you need a wide aisle for it so people have room to stand there and look at the bread! And no other store I know puts the bread in the same aisle as the baking supplies! WTF?? Also, the checkout situation is still horrific. I was ready to try slitting my wrists with a corn chip (sharpest thing in my basket). But maybe PathMark will improve the checkout situation in time.

Went to Ann's yoga class at my gym last night. It pretty much kicked my ass. I'm getting soft, just going to Lucia's classes. We did a lot of standing work last night, and I just couldn't hold the poses for as long as I wanted to. I need to increase my personal at-home practice, and also follow up on classes at studios in the area. I also need to call the gym and make sure that my yearly membership ends at the end of this month and that they're not going to automatically renew it or anything.

RE: Heroes: WTF??? Discuss.

Last night I:

- stopped at the library, returned two books I'd read, and picked up four new ones (two were on hold for me, and the other two were exciting surprises).
- did yoga for almost an hour!
- typed up a draft of an essay. When it's a little more polished, I'd like to send it to someone to read (warning: graphic and hilarious menstrual details). Any volunteers? ([livejournal.com profile] pocketwitch, I'm sending it to you whether you volunteer or not.) ::edit:: okay, *I* think it's hilarious, but I'm not making any promises. It might just be disturbing.
- cooked crab alfredo cavatappi (aka "crabby pasta"), now with spinach. I have leftovers for dinner tonight.
- watched Chuck and Heroes

Why the hell weren't you watching Heroes tonight? Yes, you. How many times have I told you that it's the best damn show on TV? Many times. Now you are missing out. You are missing out big time. GO DOWNLOAD THE EPISODES FOR GOODNESS SAKE! Although at this point you might as well just wait the four more weeks until the season's over and download it all at once. But I am telling you that this show is so good that you should not wait one more minute to start watching it.

For those of y'all who are smart and watch Heroes, some thoughts on tonight's episode. )

See, this is what LOST is trying to do and what they are not succeeding at. I don't know if LOST is giving us too little information or not the right information; whatever it is that they're doing wrong, I hope their writers were watching Heroes tonight and taking notes. This is what LOST should be doing. This is what LOST started out doing and then forgot how to do. Heroes is totally rocking right now--they're giving us actual answers, and gradually revealing information in a way that keeps us coming back but isn't totally frustrating. LOST gives us useless information that doesn't lead anywhere, but Heroes is actually posing questions, answering them in a satisfying way, and then letting that naturally lead to other questions. Tonight's episode was almost Whedonesque in its awesomeness. I love this show.

I had a delicious dinner tonight! This weekend Josh grilled up some very tasty asparagus, and so when I saw it on sale at the grocery store, I picked some up for myself. They also had Gorton's fish products on sale, so I stocked up on those too. For dinner I had garlic herb fish fillets and asparagus baked in garlic butter and olive oil. Yum yum! And not dreadfully unhealthy! Although I did eat all the asparagus and two fillets, which supposedly counts as two servings.

Yesterday was a good day. We slept in, had pancakes for breakfast, and then went to Costco. Amy and Josh got some stuff for their house, and I got a giant thing of vitamins (I was almost out, and they were cheap and I don't have a Costco membership to go get some at that price here at home) and a book. We sat around all afternoon--Amy took a nap, Sarah took a walk, I read my book on the comfy chair with the cats. Josh watched TV, I think. Last night we met Tammy and Uri and Chrysta and Corey for dinner at Buca di Beppo in downtown Denver. I had never eaten at one before, and it was pretty cool. We ordered tons of food and shared it all, and everything was delicious. My favorite was probably the dessert. Maybe Tammy will post pictures of it. :) It was great to see them and share some yummy food!

Today wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We did stay up too late last night talking, and then had to get up around 4AM this morning, so we were tired. And Sarah had a bit too much wine so she was extra tired. We left for the airport at 4:30, got there around 5:15, checked in, got Sarah a breakfast burrito, and our flight left (shockingly) on time. I had planned to go to work after we got back to Philly, but we landed about ten minutes late, which was just late enough that I missed the 1:12 R1 train to downtown Philly. We had to wait for the next one at 1:42, which meant that I wouldn't have gotten to work until 2:15, and I would have had to stay late to get in a half day's worth of hours, and it just wasn't worth it to me. Instead Sarah and I took the 1:42 to Suburban Station and hung out there until we could get on the R8 at 2:42 and go back to my house. She left right away to drive to her grandma's for dinner, and I had a relaxing afternoon. I went to the grocery store, and putzed around a bit, and made a nice dinner.

Just now I watched last night's Heroes. Peter is still my favorite character. Read more... )
