We had a nice big group for the last Scrabble game of the year: Kari, Jean, and Angela on one board, and Christine, Kristina, Liam, and me on the other board. We had some issues at first because there was a meeting in the conference room we usually play in. We were kind of miffed because they didn't reserve the room, but we hadn't reserved it either, so we couldn't really complain. We need to start reserving it in the future, but today's game in the room with the big square table was okay. It'd be hard to have a five-person game in there, though--we had to play at the corners of the table, rather than back and forth across the table as we usually would.
My words:
12 points - STOOL
10 points - IRONS
12 points - WIRING
28 points - OX/DO
35 points - THEIR/RIFER (Christine had played RIFE, and I made it more rife)
07 points - TRITE
11 points - QI
-4 to Christine, who went out first (my leftover letters were IIEN)
111 total
Not a single U was played on the board until the second-to-last turn. Kristina had three of them in her hand and couldn't do anything with them, and Liam had the other one and played it on his last turn. So I was particularly stuck with that damn Q for most of the game. I couldn't even play QAT, and I couldn't find a spot to play QI where I could get a double or triple multiplier. It was sad.
Christine won our game with 125 points. Liam had 108, and Kristina 109, so we were all in the same ballpark--the leftover letters pushed Christine up over the top. Really, she wins a lot more often than she thinks she does.
However, Kari apparently crushed Jean and Angela, with a final score of 248, so she wins the crown for the holidays!
(Lou went out to lunch with his dad today and only stopped in to say hi towards the end of the game.)
