Executive Administrator. PEN New England. PEN New England is seeking an Executive Administrator to work with its Executive Board & committee chairs to coordinate panels & events; to advance the goals of PEN & its committees (Diversity, Freedom-to-Write, Literacy, & Children’s Book Caucus); to manage the membership base & communicate with membership; administer two national awards; write grants; & handle accounts & funding base of the organization. A branch of PEN American Center, which is in turn part of International PEN, the mission of the organization is to advance the cause of literature & reading in the United States & to defend free expression everywhere. Responsibilities: In consultation with the board, coordinate the annual program of events including the annual Book Party, Readings of the Best American Short Stories Fund-raiser, Awards Presentation, & PEN Discovery evening, along with special events & discussions. Maintain database lists, communicate with members, & develop a broader base of new members. Fund-raising activities; grant writing, reporting, & funding development in conjunction with the Finance Committee. Oversee production & bulk-mailing of the thrice annual newsletter. Assist in the development of a high profile for the organization’s activities. Other duties as mutually agreed upon. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree & minimum of four years experience; knowledge of contemporary literature & publishing; computer skills (including word processing, Quark, Quicken, ProFilemaker); ability to manage detail under deadline pressure; strong writing, administrative, organizational, & interpersonal skills. Starting salary: $30,000 per year/25-30 hours per week. Starting date: Sept. 1, 2003. (With training session 15 hours/week during Aug.)

i think i'm pretty much qualified, except for the four years experience part. if you count my MFA, i've only got two years of anything past my bachelor's. and i don't know Quicken. otherwise, this job looks perfect. elan helped me with the cover letter, so i'm sending it with my c.v. on monday. and if you were wondering, i never heard anything back from that northeastern job i mentioned a while ago. i'm guessing i didn't get it.
