This was a really lovely novel. Set in Iran in the 1600's, it's about a young girl whose father dies, leaving her without a dowry and drastically lowering her prospects for a good marriage. She and her mother move to the city to live with her father's half brother, who works in the Shah's carpet weaving shop. Her uncle teaches her how to knot spectacular carpets. Our heroine screws up a lot, hurting her family and almost killing her mother, but eventually she makes a place for herself in the world. A really good book, and I learned more about Persian carpets than I ever knew before.
