First poetry book of National Poetry Month! This is the very lovely first book of my friend Dan, out from BOA Editions (which is a very good thing, if you're not all up on the poetry world). It was kind of a kick to recognize some poems in here that I'd read before in workshop. Mostly, though, I was just so impressed by the beauty and lyricism of Dan's work. The whole book is so thoughtful, each poem lending to and taking from every other poem. Very interconnected, very well thought out, very tightly knit. Dan's meditations on God and death and joy really touched me. (Jill, you should maybe check this out, actually.) The final poem, the title poem, I was really impressed by--although I can't type it out here, or it'll spoil the whole thing. You just have to go read it. Overall, a really lovely book and a pleasure to read.
