Really interesting and intense novel. The narration alternates between two perspectives: 16-year-old Ezra, and his complicated mother Pixie, who was Miss New Jersey in her youth but who never made it to Miss America. The two of them have a very close relationship, and a series of events over the course of one difficult summer force Ezra to grow up and Pixie to deal with her past. Worth reading, but nothing I'd recommend you rush out and buy.
