Full title: Skipping Towards Gomorrah: The Seven Deadly Sins and the Pursuit of Happiness in America. Nonfiction. Dan Savage, inspired by all the books written by people like Robert Bork and William Bennet about the moral wasteland of America, decided to go out and do the research on America's sinfulness. He sets out to experience each of the seven deadly sins as it's commonly practiced in the USA. Savage makes a good argument in support of Americans pursuing happiness each in his or her own way; what's a sin to Robert Bork is happiness to Savage. It's nicely researched (in the library as well as experiential)--Savage really understands his opponents here, and and the book's written well and funny enough that I snorted out loud on the train on several occasions. It's too bad Savage is preaching to the choir here, because you know nobody's going to buy the gay sex advice columnist's book except the people who already like gay sex advice columnists. Still, worth a read, even though it's a few years old and thus a little dated.
