So, [livejournal.com profile] grass_stained's recent experience with evil Russian hackers has convinced me that I really need to back up my journal. I've got a good seven years of content on here that I don't want to lose.

Do you, my friends, use a program to back up your LJ entries? Which one, and what do you like about it?

A quick google search has brought me:
- LJBackup - looks like it gets the job done in a no-frills sort of way
- LJArchive - gets the job done and can do nifty searchy and sorty things

Your thoughts?

I like LJBook because it exports comments as well and works across platforms (and, you know, I'm a Mac.)

Russian hackers? Should I be worried....

Probably not. The evil Russian hackers target the moderators of large communities, and [livejournal.com profile] grass_stained used to mod a large comm. More important is the email address question: you should check to see what email addresses are linked to your LJ and make sure you still control all those addresses. Some people have problems because hotmail addresses are reassigned when they become inactive, and then the new user can access your LJ. You can also enable a security question to prevent someone from accessing your LJ using an old address.

Thanks for the links, I updated the address and security question... I don't know if I'd lose a lot of info on this thing, but I would probably be sad if I had to start over.

Thanks for bringing up this idea and the links, [livejournal.com profile] supercheesegirl; it's something I keep meaning to do and forgetting.

I use ljArchive, and it does everything I need it to.
