wow, it's been like 18 years since i posted. okay. so friday, i went out to play frisbee with the MFA frisbee crew, as i often do on fridays. and it was fun for a while, but then it started to rain. no problem, said we, it'll be fun to play in the rain. and for a while, it was fun. then the rain gets heavier and heavier. and the thunder and lightning begin. soon it feels like the thunder and lightning are right there in the field with us. and then it starts to hail. but we keep playing until someone scores a last goal, because we are determined frisbee players. and that last goal was a long time coming, because the visibility was poor and the ground and the frisbee and all of us were slick with rain. so finally my team scores, and we're like, yeah time to go, and start walking. the walk home was really kind of terrifying. you know how you hear stories on the news about some kids who died somehow out in a horrible storm, and you start thinking, what were those kids DOING out in a torrential hailstorm, anyway? well, they were probably playing frisbee. we were scared we might not make it home. i have never been that wet before and still been clothed. my tote bag got muddy and soaked inside and out, including my wallet and all the stuff in it, and i almost lost my flip flops like eight times on the way home, but we eventually made it. i got back to my apartment around 7 and open the door and there's jorn on the couch all nice and dry while i'm standing there drenched to the skin like a drowned rat a water nymph or something (is the word i'm looking for nyad or dryad? i can never keep it straight). i took a shower and got warmed up and then promptly fell asleep for a couple hours, but i woke up in time to watch an episode of voyager with jorn (the one that got canceled a few months ago in favor of a basketball game), and then i played some kirby. yeah.
so on to my other adventures this weekend. jorn had to work on saturday, so i took advantage of the time and got a lot of errands done. i went to sears and got a gift certificate for Kari & Josh (very very VERY long past the actual wedding, but they're the ones who didn't have a real ceremony) and while i was at sears i just happened to spend thirty bucks on clothes. but it was a good sale! i got a pretty skirt and two tops. i know i keep saying it, but no more clothes now for a while, unless i find new khakis (but bras and sandals don't count as "clothes", and i do need some of those). i paid the rent and got some groceries and dropped off my film and stopped at ed mckay's for the last book in the jack chalker trilogy i was reading, and then i walked down tate street to get a few PRESENTS for someone's BIRTHDAY (which is TODAY!). and then i wrapped all the presents while jorn was still at work, and i still had some time, so i played kirby and read. i also straightened up the living room and did massive amounts of dishes. saturday night i worked for a wedding reception at blandwood--the people paid to have the main house open for part of their wedding reception, which is always fun. the only problem with this one was that we were told to be there 6:30-7:30, and nobody really showed up till almost 7pm. we heard later that the wedding didn't actually end till almost 7. so we did the open house thing, answered questions, and i kept a tally of the amount of people. when it started slowing down, i saw that 60 people had come through, and we figured that they were about done. we weren't trying to close up early, we just figured everyone who wanted to see had been though. but of course, as soon as we closed up the house and were ready to set the alarm, this older couple comes over wanting to come in. we had to tell them we were told to stay till 7:30 and we were sorry. at least they were understanding, unlike the jerk i had to deal with last time i was at blandwood. after blandwood i played more kirby, then went to a party at fay & lori's new house. it was laidback, very fun. on sunday i beat kirby--completely beat it, getting every single crystal from all the levels and killing the badass boss at the end. it was cool, yo. then we went to rhett's for a buffython!! i was so excited. we watched three episodes of buffy season 4 and four episodes of angel season 1 for a total of seven episodes. we ate popcorn and ordered pizza. what a wonderful day.
