'Sup, y'all. This was a really busy weekend. I'm really, really wishing for an actual open weekend so that I can finish unpacking and just unwind, you know? I just looked through my planner, and since we 'officially' got everything into the new apartment on September 1, I have had exactly one unoccupied weekend day: I was in Denver for Labor Day, then at the Lefton party the following week, then at Otis House and in Salem the week after that, then hanging with Chelsea the week after that, and I was out all day both days this weekend. And next week I'll be at the beach in NJ, which will be relaxing and wonderful but will not be apartment-settley. But I'm far enough along in my unpacking, and Jorn's catching up enough, that we're hoping we'll be able to get the rest done in bits and pieces during the evenings for the next few weeks. Just have to stop goofing off, that's all. But if much more mess accumulates in the living room, I'll have to clean just to see the TV, so there's that.

Anyway, this weekend. Friday. )

Saturday. )

Sunday. )
supercheesegirl: (snore)
so what all happened this weekend? let's see.

friday night, i went to the minibosses show. dann and jorn already had plenty to say about it, so i'll just say it was cool and i'm glad i went and leave it at that.

saturday morning. a funny story, but for jorn's sake i'll lj-cut it )

so after we got out of bed we watched the last three episodes of angel season 3. and i am so pissed off! how could they leave us hanging like that??!? then i played some old school zelda while jorn watched the last of his transformer dvds, and then we showered up and went to harvard square. i showed jorn my office and we dropped off some plants and some pictures that i want to hang up. we shopped a little and got pizzeria uno for dinner, then hit blockbuster on the way home. rented Spellbound, a documentary about kids in the national spelling bee, and it was totally good and totally intense.

sunday. i set the alarm for 8:30, got up by 8:45, had plenty of time. then i realized i hadn't shut down my computer the night before, and i went to do that, but the computer told me it was daylight savings time and asked me to verify the correct time. i said, holy crap! and started running around like crazy because it was really 9:45 and i had been hoping to leave for work at 10:15. i got there at 11:20, which wasn't too bad considering the circumstances, and laura got there at around the same time. i said, so did you forget about daylight savings time too? and her eyes got all big. she had thought she was all early for work! so we didn't open the house til 11:30, but it's not like anyone was there for a tour right away anyhow. laura gave a 1:30 tour to eight people, including a woman updating the fodor's travel guide, so we let her in for free. and i gave a 4:30 tour to a little japanese family who lives in waltham now and must've moved here pretty recently. their little girl was remarkably well behaved for a four-year-old, especially for a four-year-old who couldn't even understand what the boring tour guide was saying. but she was exceedingly proud of the english words she knew: "hellohowAREyou!" and "thanks!" and "BYE!" i was able to find a tour translation in japanese for them, and she was reading along with her mom just fine in the japanese, which was really cool.

when we weren't giving tours, laura and i were sitting around chatting and discovering even *more* things that we have in common. besides the english major thing and the sci fi channel thing and the fantasy novel thing, we're both gamers. which is pretty cool. we were playing the "i bet my apartment has more game systems than your apartment" game, and she totally won. and she knows the King's Quest games! which was just awesome. when i get a new computer i totally want to get Fantasmagoria, which sounds like a really cool game. and we talked about politics, too--she was down at the statehouse or whatever supporting on the gay marriage thing, which i thought was cool. i like laura a lot.

and now i'm at work, and today is the kipster's first day back in the office. so i'm not wearing jeans. and just for the record, i am sick of boston weather. sicksicksick. it's april for goodness sake, it should be a hell of a lot warmer than freezing outside.

oh, here's that anya/money icon i tried to post on friday. i like it. *edit* and i added a second one, which is just funny.

supercheesegirl: (watch out! by supercheesegirl)
my parents were here this weekend. it was awesome. i picked them up at the airport friday morning and we came back to my place and spent the afternoon just hanging around talking. they really liked my place and weren't too skeeved by the neighborhood, which was good. friday night we went to mr. crepe for dinner, and they loved that too--i wasn't sure at first if they were just saying they liked it when they didn't, but my mom said that right after she finished her apples & cinnamon crepe she was already thinking about what she'll get next time (something with turkey and monterey jack cheese) so i was all excited. that night we played yahtzee and tiles and it was fun.

saturday we got up reasonably early (or, my mom got up really early and i got up at 8:00, followed by my dad, then jorn, and then finally dann) and went to the aquarium. it was awesome too. i wasn't all excited at first (even though i got in for free), but after a while my feet were doing the happy excited dance. we saw puffer fish and an octopus and lots of rays and a few big turtles and sea lions and otters and seals, and they're getting the sea dragons exhibit in a few weeks so i'm going to go back with jorn for that. and we'll spend all the time we want watching the penguins, too. yay for rockhopping.

after the aquarium, mom and dad took jorn and i out to legal seafoods for lunch, and it was super ymmuy. we got two bowls of the lobster bisque soup to split, and a serving of the crab dip (which was fabulous, and i'm not the biggest crap dip fan), and i got coconut shrimp that were magnificent. then we booked it to get to the Otis House before they closed, but we still had to rush a bit to see the whole house, and i couldn't show my mom the slide show like i had wanted to. but they'll be back in the spring sometime, and then i'll be able to give them the beacon hill walking tour too, and that'll be fun. saturday night we rented A Mighty Wind and they liked it, but not as much as Best in Show.

sunday we all slept in, and then i made scrambled eggs for breakfast and we sat around until the Eagles game came on at 1:00, then ordered pizza and watched the game till 3:30, when we left for the airport. i hugged them goodbye and went home and baked sugar cookies with dannbrown because i felt like it. and later last night i actually started working on poemy things. i read through my whole thesis, and really, there are chunks of it that are quite good (i have a bit of objectivity with it now, since i haven't even looked at the thing since may--six whole months). and i decided that i'm going to start sending out poems to magazines. it would be a disservice to myself if i didn't, i think. so i started looking at journals online last night and deciding where to submit. i was even starting to get excited.

in other news, my mom is now officially Highly Qualified to teach middle school language arts (she got her scores back from that test she had to take, because it's how she performs on a TEST that shows what kind of teacher she is, not her degree in teaching or years of experience or anything). but yeah, Highly Qualified. i, on the other hand, am not Highly Qualified to do anything. i'm not even Sort Of Qualified for much. this point was driven home to me once again this morning as i looked through the job ads on monster and bostonworks and bookbuilders. i wonder how the hell anyone gets a job doing anything. i used to think i was pretty highly qualified to do administrative work, but apparently not even for that, judging from the flurry of calls i get. there has to be something wrong with me. i mean, we're starting to get into the hundreds of resumes, here, with hardly any response. and i never heard back from Cell Press. i guess they didn't like me that much after all. stupid cartoons.
supercheesegirl: (Default)
yo yo yo. it's wednesday. it feels like monday though, because I HAD OFF YESTERDAY!! hooray for veterans. anyway, let me start off back at friday, since i haven't updated in a while. boo-YAH. )

and a big "hi y'all" to the new folks on my friends list: [livejournal.com profile] shabuchwae, [livejournal.com profile] mel1978nj, and [livejournal.com profile] queende. woot!

yay!

hey, i got the job at the Harrison Gray Otis House! i *finally* talked to the director today after we played phone tag all week long, and she said she was excited to hire me, and she said that she spoke to david at Blandwood and he seemed to just love me and said lots of nice things. so i was happy to hear that, and wrote david a little thank-you email. and i start at the Otis house next sunday (that'll be a busy weekend, the CT Ren Faire on saturday and then starting at the Otis House on sunday, but it'll be fun). the first day, i'll mostly just be shadowing tours and learning how it's done, and i'll get to shadow a walking tour of the area too, which will be nice.

and i'm also psyched because sneakers are acceptable for work there! first of all because i'll be following the walking tour and the director wouldn't want anyone to be uncomfortable on that, and secondly because we wear shoe covers half the time anyway. so i'll need to be dressed nicely, but i can wear sneakers! and we all know (or maybe we don't; have i whined about shoes on here lately?) how i have no appropriate work shoes for winter. sneakers are good news.

yay boston

yesterday was a super day! i interviewed with the historic Harrison Gray Otis House, and i think it went really well. SPNEA runs i think most of the historic houses in new england, and i met with the regional director of southeast new england and the head guide for the Otis House. they were both really nice, and the first thing the regional director said when we all sat down was that it seemed like what i did at blandwood is almost exactly what they're looking for. i thought pretty much the same thing when i read the ad. after the more formal interview part, anya, the head guide, took me through the house so i could get a feel for the house and the family and stuff, and it was really fun. i like her a lot, and i like the house a lot. it's really beautiful with some great history to it, some good stories, and it's been restored so nicely. i really want this job. i'm excited about it--hopefully i'll hear from them on monday or tuesday about it.

and after the interview, i decided to take a different way home--jorn and i had gotten off at Charles/MGH on the red line to get there, but the house was also supposed to be close to the government center green line stop, so i decided to see if i could find my way there. and so i was walking up cambridge street, and suddenly i thought, wow! i know where i am! it's the first time that's happened in boston, that i've started in one place and ended up somewhere else. so i was all excited and had a nice "yay boston" moment. which was a lot more exhilerating than a "whatthefuck, greensboro?" moment, let me tell you.

anyway, i'm still tired, though i'm feeling better now than i was when i first got home. jorn and i were talking about going out for a "date" tonight, but by general consensus we've decided that our date is going consist of chinese delivery and angel dvds instead of dinner and a movie. teh.

on the agenda for this weekend: battistini and steve are coming to town on saturday night, maybe around 6 or 7, and we're going to get some food, and they're spending the night here, and on sunday we're going with some of sarah's work friends to the boston folk festival. should be lots of fun.
supercheesegirl: (scary monster!)
yo yo. i had an awesome weekend (although i'm still having problems getting over feeling guilty for "not getting anything done"--i don't have anything to get done anymore!). anyway, thursday night was really cool--after work jorn and i went to the Old Town for drinks with the poets. the first years planned the event for we second years, to express gladness for knowing us and stuff, and they gave us a present--they made broadsides of a poem of each of ours and sort of made a little book. it was really pretty, ezra even designed the cover all nice. i was touched. after that we headed home and ate a super dinner (which jorn described in detail), and then he finally got to open his presents. he really liked all of them, so i was all excited. sometimes it's totally more fun to give someone presents than to get presents, especially when you know you got him really good stuff. then we did watch tv--a few episodes of angel, i believe.

friday was a good day--jorn dropped me off at blandwood and i worked there 11-1. nothing really notable about that, except for a couple of little girls with fancy folding fans wandering through the house talking in fancy british accents: "and heah on the second floor, we have the west bedroom..." that was pretty cute. i also got to give david a good copy of my thesis, which i had been wanting to do, and this was my last chance to do it. he seemed excited, so i was glad i saved one for him. after that, i got changed out of work clothes, and jorn and i wandered the downtown area. i thought it was pretty fun, but then i like things where there are lots of people to look at, and jorn isn't so big on that. jorn bought me funnel cake, and we shopped in the downtown bookstore but didn't find anything good. i also got a bit sunburned, but it did sort of even out the color on my back (since last time i burnt i was wearing a halter swimsuit and this time a tank top with spaghetti straps--there's less white on my back now). after we got home, jorn fell asleep and i read harry potter all afternoon, until all of a sudden it was around 7 and we had to heat up the mashed potatoes to take to the barbecue. i wouldn'tve minded staying a little longer at the barbecue, but i didn't really feel like drinking (and now we've got all these hard ciders in the fridge), and i had eaten, and there was nowhere to sit down, and my ankles were all itchy and my dress was too tight. so i didn't mind leaving too much, except that everybody seemed surprised when we left so soon. oh well. then we watched a few more angel episodes and got all pissed off when doyle died.

saturday was the best lazy day ever. i slept till around 11 (and didn't even notice when jorn got up), then read for a while and finished Harry Potter (somebody post your thoughts on it, i'd like to discuss), and then played gameboy for a while--i started a new oracle of ages game because i played seasons to ages, but haven't played ages to seasons yet (i liked seasons way better than ages anyway, so playing through ages first will give me something to look forward to when i'm stuck in the damned mermaid's cave). then jorn and i watched Toy Story 2 (because we have it on dvd and hadn't watched it yet), and then while jorn was at the radio i ate my leftover chicken and mashed potatoes and did some dishes and other tidying around the house. saturday night we played a few games of yahtzee and one game of scrabble with elan (elan whipped us at yahtzee, but jorn predictably kicked ass at scrabble, even feeling as tired as he professed to be), and then jorn and i stayed up late (i was playing more gameboy, but i'm not sure what he was doing).

on sunday when i woke up, jorn was playing mario64! i had forgotten we had that now. of course, we spent several hours playing together--i never did beat it the first time i was playing it, so now i have a new goal. i don't what i'm going to do, though--i'm in the middle of oracle of ages AND mario 64. how will i divide my time?? :) i also read the paper and clipped my coupons, and then jorn and i went to the movies to see the Italian Job. it was very cool--lots of cool, likeable people being cool and stealing stuff. yeah. i recommend it. then we hit the grocery store and managed to spend a ton of money stocking up on soda and juice and iced tea mix and lean cuisine dinners. word.
supercheesegirl: (Default)
wow, it's been like 18 years since i posted. okay. here's what happened last weekend. )
supercheesegirl: (scary monster!)
today's been such an odd day that i actually emailed jorn to see if it's full moon. it's not--not till july 13. it's almost a new moon, though, i wonder if that makes people act weird. anyway, everything's all complicated today. this one guy is sort of new at his account exec job, and he sent over some accounts to be created, but he had them checked off for the wrong thing the first time and had to send them again, and then there was still something wrong with one of them and we had to send it through *again*... and there's this other account exec who has sent us four rush jobs for accounts just this week alone--and we don't really have the power to rush things, you know? there are other departments involved that we have no control over. the process just goes as fast as it goes, and she's gotta deal. the last account exec who was always sending us rush jobs got fired not too long ago, i don't know how related it was, but still, this chick should watch out. two of the rush jobs she's sent came through this morning, when i know for a fact she was on the phone with allie about it late yesterday afternoon, trying to find a shortcut. if she had sent it then, i would've been able to start on it then instead of this morning! but no, she sends it at 10pm last night. and even with the normal account things, the kind of stuff i do every day, there have been odd complications--like, a list of accounts that need created but two people need access to this one thing but the others don't, or somebody returns a call about a wrong email address but i've never heard of her. just weird shit. but my boss brought in mcdonald's snack-size fruit & yogurt parfaits for all of us, so that made me happy.

it was so hot in my apartment this morning that i was wandering around in pants and shoes and a bra, and i startled poor elan (not like she cares; she was just surprised). i'm grumpzor because it's all hot out and if i play frisbee today i won't be able to just wear a tank top because i don't want my poor shoulders out in the sun again till they heal. i'm not even feeling like i wanna go play frisbee, but i really should--it's good for me and fun and i haven't been to the gym in way too long, so i should get a workout somewhere. heh, when i typed "work", my fingers automatically started typing "shop" on the end instead of "out". no more workshops for me for a while.

david from blandwoodsent an email reminding me and two other people that we had signed up to work a reception on saturday night and giving us info about it, and he said that since i had worked one of these before i could be the "head honcho." hehe.

k, i gots shizz to do, yo.
supercheesegirl: (watch out!)
does anyone have a printer? i want to print out the reformatted version of my thesis, and i really can't do that surreptitiously here at work (it's like 24 pages, and the printer is just too far from my desk for me to get away with it). even if you're far away, you could print it out and mail it to me. or can you print things out at kinko's? i'm giving them my freakin' money anyway to make copies of it for me.

saturday was a good day. slept in, then went clothes shopping with elan at carolina thrift. i spent $22.42 and got several shirts and the cutest dress ever (it's bright blue and has little lemons printed all over it--it's a little big, but i just want it for fun, not for work or anything). elan spent $19.50 or so but got even more stuff than i did. then she and i and jorn went to see Finding Nemo, which was just so awesome. IMFGS @ teh last Pixar.

also, emily's party on saturday night was a good time. rhett got pretty drunk; so did xina, who fell asleep on the couch. there was really good food, too.

yesterday i worked at blandwood in the afternoon, and two things really made me upset. the first thing was pretty basic: when i went to sign up for hours later this month, i saw that the month of june was entirely filled. so i flip to july, and *that's* almost filled too, except for the last weekend, when i'll be out of town. david's hired some new docents lately, and i'm thinking there might not be enough hours to go around, but this wasn't even that--one girl had signed up for two different weekends in july. in may and june, everybody was signing up for tops, one weekend, but usually two days spaced out. so it's not even that everybody else got to the july calendar before me--three other docents are also affected by this. i don't know if david asked this one girl to sign up for those weekends thinking that people would be out of town or something, but i don't think it's fair, and i'm going to email david to ask about it. (update: i emailed him. we'll see what he says.)

the other thing was this. on sunday afternoons, blandwood is open 2-5. in order to actually close at 5, we say that the last tour leaves at 4:30. so at around 4:30, i was finishing up a tour, and jorn had just arrived to pick me up, and this guy walks up to the house and asks for a tour for himself and the old lady who's with him. i ask jorn what time it is, and he says 4:39. completely forgetting that his watch is fast, i said to the man that i'm sorry but the last tour has to leave at 4:30 because we close at 5. he looks at *his* watch and gets all mad, saying that it's 4:31 and i won't take them, and then he storms off. the old lady with him starts talking to me, saying that they drove all the way from ashboro to come here, and i start realizing that i was wrong about the time, and i'm feeling bad for the old lady, so i say, hey okay i'll stay a little late and give you a tour. so she goes to tell her man (not a husband--son? don't know), and i tell the people who's tour i'm finishing that i'll meet them in the kitchen building in just a moment and they can look around. so i go out to the street, and the man is in the car waiting for the old lady. she gets in the car and he starts it, so i walk up to the car and say that i was mistaken about the time because my boyfriend's watch was fast and won't they come in for a tour? and the man says, no you didn't want to talk to me up there and we're leaving. and they drive off. so what could i do? i finish up the kitchen part of the tour for the other people and then jorn and i close up the house and go home, but i was really upset. i mean, i made a mistake, but i admitted it and offered to take them through a tour. but this man acted like a complete jerk and wouldn't even listen to me, when he drove all the way out just so the old lady could visit the house. she's the one i feel bad for: she had to ride all the way home with him, and likely, had to listen to him bitch about me all the way to ashboro. why couldn't he just be nice? i usually like working at blandwood, and he ruined my whole day there.

i would also like to say that it is colder than satan's balls in my office building today. i am freezing my ass off, and my hands are so cold all my rings are falling off my numb fingers.

happy birthday to the Marquis de Sade (263 today) and Thomas Hardy (163 today). thanks, desk calendar.

things to do:
-email david at blandwood RE schedule
-get the freud action figure for samantha; send in box to mom & dad
-find father's day presents; send them with pecan log and other things to mom & dad
-plan and make a mix tape for missi
-mend the little tears in the orangey shirt; stitch the hole in my funky purse; fix beige sweater sleeve
-post my movies-to-watch list
-do some clothes shopping
-reformat thesis; print surreptitiously, take to kinko's for copying, and send to people
-make brownies for emily's thing on saturday night
-don't forget to go to blandwood on sunday afternoon

it's been awhile since i posted. yay work. so here's what's been happening the last few days... my legs are still sore. )
supercheesegirl: (Default)
it was a good weekend. although i'm glad i don't have to go back to blandwood for a while; i was there over ten hours in the past four days. i claimed it all on my timesheet, even though maybe i should've just volunteered my time for the candlelight tours. i marked it separately on my timesheet, at least, so david can pay me for it, or not, as he chooses.

quotes from last night's (girls v. boys) Taboo game at jenny's party:

guy: It's where you put the beer--
all guys in room: THE FRIDGE! REFRIGERATOR!!
(next card)
guy: Okay, girls look at guys' butts to see how big this is.
all guys: HIS WALLET!!

just an interesting example, i thought, of how guys think. on the other hand, we girls immediately guessed correctly on questions like Diet, Exercise, and Cabana Boy.

this week:
Monday: temp at the receptionist job, 8-5. exchange gifts with jorn (because we're so excited about the stuff we've gotten each other that we can't wait anymore).
Tuesday: stop by trc to get more timesheets. start a new temp job answering phones, 10-3.
Wednesday: temp 10-3. LORD OF TEH RINGS!1!
Thursday: temp 10-3.
Friday: temp 10-3. start driving towards PA.

things i need to get done:
pick up LotR tickets
return library book
pick up prescription
get gifts for colleen, missi, rose, sarah, kari
go to B&N--get puzzle for dad, book for rhett
clean the freakin' apartment
pack stuff for trip--pack car
watch too much Buffy
supercheesegirl: (Default)
so. tired.

got up at 6am this morning. got to the temp job at 7:45, waited in the car till 8am. job was okay--a receptionist thing, the actual front desk of the building--i spent most of the day answering the phone, handing out visitor tags, and chatting with Fern and Margaret (the other receptionists). i'll probably be extended all next week, which will be nice for my bank account (but which will suck for my overall tiredness and getting things done and spending time with jorn). but oh well.

and tonight i did the christmas candlelight tour at blandwood. i got to wear a hoop skirt again--while plaid, the dress was significantly better than last year's (which was bright barbie-pink and shiny like latex for some reason). i felt all antebellum and shit. hardly anyone came out for the event tonight, though, only like six visitors or something ridiculous like that. hopefully tomorrow will be better.

plan for this weekend:

friday: temp 8-5. pick up jorn at his house, find food. be at blandwood by 6:45 or so, get changed, do something better with hair. be friendly 7-9. party at angie's afterwards.
saturday: be at blandwood by 10:45 to tour. hopefully leave by 1:30 (jorn, you want to borrow the car on saturday morning and come by to pick me up at 1:30?). Star Trek with jorn. party at jenny's.
sunday: sleep teh phuck in. blandwood 1:45-5pm.

sometime: return library book. buy gift for amy/josh. wrap presents. call mom. buy a present for the gift exchange at jenny's. pick up film.
supercheesegirl: (Default)
hey y'all. busybusy.

i attended my last two classes ever yesterday. well, last classes ever at uncg. it was really nice.

today i baked cookies, got a background check and drug screening, returned an action figure to the BiLo, shopped at walmart and ed mckay's, and wrote out almost all of my holiday cards.

here's what's going on with me later this week:

thursday/friday: temp job (receptionist), 8-5, $9/hr. (hence the aforementioned background check and drug screening--apparently the company is a bit picky about such things. whateva, i ain't been smokin' none.)
thursday/friday evenings: christmas candlelight tours at blandwood. a lovely historic 1840s home, decorations, music, and me in a hoop skirt. what else do you need, really?
friday night: party at angie & jake's.
saturday: regular weekend tours at blandwood 11-2. movie date with jorn (STAR TREK!1!!), then holiday party at jenny's.
sunday: blandwood 2-5. also, if i have time, i can help tracy move into ruth's apartment, but i'm betting they'll be done with that by the time blandwood's done with me.

to do: pick up film, get stamps, send cards.
supercheesegirl: (Default)
so yeah, jorn mentioned that he got this new N64 game called Pokemon Snap! and it's really fun. and i LOVE it. it's seriously the cutest game ever. you just go around this island and take pictures of really cute pokemon, and you don't have to kill anything or fight anything or capture anything. you just try to get the best and cutest pictures, and try to get the pokemon into fun poses. on saturday night, i watched Enterprise and then played this game till jorn got home from the radio station, and i only really meant to play it for a little while so i could watch an episode of buffy. and you know how i love buffy. anyway, we watched two episodes this morning, so it was all good.

friday night, jorn and i drove to raleigh to meet up with an old professor of mine (Walt Reeser, anyone? he taught the grammar class at SU, and probably writing sem or something). he's just an awesome guy, we got along so well, and he happened to be in raleigh on business (he's not teaching at SU anymore), so i got the chance to go have dinner with him. yay! and it was after we got home on friday night that we began playing Pokemon Snap (we finished the game today).

anyway, i also spent a good portion of this weekend at blandwood. i gave one tour yesterday and two today (not a whole lot for a three-hour shift), but i didn't feel like my time was wasted because yesterday i entered a bunch of items into the new computer inventory system (david gave me a stack of things to enter, and i got all of it done), and today i helped the christmas crew with decorating the house. it was fun! i love christmas decorations. maybe soon i'll post a picture of my mom's house at christmas time. hmm.

in other news. tonight i got all my shizz packed up. i'm staying at jorn's tonight, and then leaving earlyearly tomorrow morning to drive to PA for thanksgiving. i don't have any classes this week, and i had some hours saved up from work, so i decided to just take the whole week off and go teh fuck home. i'm going to surprise my mom, too--i made sure i wasn't home when she called me, and i didn't call back (we talk every sunday night). she's not expecting me till tuesday night, so she'll be so so excited to see me when i'm there when she gets home from work! of course, i'm planning on leaving at 7am to achieve this, but oh well. we do these things. it'll make her happy.

so yeah. don't expect an update for a few days. if i get on my parents' computer, hopefully it'll be to work on some poems, not to get online.

my mom teaches in an urban middle school located in a rather poor area, so most of her students are black. one of my mom's students is named Jtron. she refers to him and his friends as "Jtron and the other transformers." i just thought some of y'all would get a kick out of that.

weekend = good. and busy. spent a LOT of time at blandwood yesterday and today. yesterday in addition to my normal touring hours, i also attended a workshop to learn how to use PastPerfect, a museum inventory database program. the blandwood folks are working on getting a full inventory of everything in the house (a very good thing to have), and i'll get to help out by entering some of it into the system. easy computer stuff, no problem. i toured this afternoon too, or i would have if anyone had shown up and wanted a tour. i fell asleep, actually, and then closed up the house fifteen minutes early. i signed up for christmastime hours though--i'm working the weekend after next, and also for two of three christmas candlelight tour nights, and for the weekend of dec. 14. and apparently, this year on sundays, hostesses will be in costume and there will be music. woo.

i'm reading Gender Trouble by Judith Butler for my feminist theory class, and so far (ie, the preface) it's reminding me of my days in Constructions of Sexuality with Dr. Manning. he was great. i can't think of peewee herman without remembering him. but the point was, i'm also now remembering the things we talked about in that class, which is a good thing. and apparently i sold all those books, which was dumb. oh well.

tonight i hustled out the door to go to the SAI mtg, which, i discovered when i got here, is apparently canceled b/c all the SAI girls are at the NCMEA conference? this is my suspicion. the vast majority of the sisters here are music ed majors, i think (the ME in NCMEA), so it would make sense to cancel the sunday night chapter mtg. it's just annoying that there wasn't an email about it, or about where to find the mtg if in fact it's actually taking place. hrm.

my parents got to go to a preview showing of the new HP movie this morning--for free, no less. my mom says it was great and was even better than the first one. i'll be finding out on friday, and so will a bunch of you. got to get tickets sometime this week--jdogg, wanna go shopping tuesday night? we can get the new LotR dvd and our HP tickets too. AND my mom says that some copies of the new LotR dvd include a free ticket for the new movie! that would be sweeeeeet. :) she also said that LotR and Star Trek: Nemesis aren't opening on the same night (Dec. 18) like i had heard they were; she heard that one of them is opening on Dec. 13 instead. since i'm sure that's not LotR (the website is pretty definitive), then it must be that Star Trek moved their premiere (or i got it wrong to begin with, which is also possible). whatever, now i don't have to go to two movie premieres on the same day.
