my other news from this weekend

when we got home from the movies on sunday around 6, elan says right away, rox you have to call your mom. so i'm thinking she's called already to talk to me for our weekly chat and it's not even six o'clock! but then elan says, your dad's in the hospital, but before i fall down she tells me not to panic because he's okay, but i should give my mom a call at the hospital. it turns out that he was having some serious chest pains on sunday morning, and after he woke up my mom (and she took a shower and he washed his hair and changed his underwear), they went to the hospital. the doctors didn't know at first if it was actually heart pain or maybe just a gastrointestinal reflux or something--they were hoping for the gastro thing, but it turns out that my dad did in fact have a "cardiac event" as they're calling it (doesn't it sound like the name of a big sale? Come down to the Cardiac Event for great deals only on Saturday from 10 to 2!). so he's going to be in the hospital for three to seven days. he's upset because he could've worked like ten hours of overtime this week for extra vacation money--like overtime is just what he needs when he's having cardiac events. the doctors told him that he absolutely has to quit smoking, so there's one good thing i guess. mom's all worried that we won't be able to go on vacation--we were supposed to be flying to orlando on july 19. we'll see what happens. also, my mom had her appointment with her foot doctor this morning, so she was going to have to do some hospital hopping. she's calling me tonight to let me know the updates on their various conditions. i did get to talk to dad on the phone, which was good, and he seemed okay, and i didn't cry too much and not while he was on the phone, so that was good. i talked to laur and coll on the phone last night, which helped, and then watched two more episodes of angel with jorn (but the last episode on disc 4 was about angel's and kate's dads dying, which was certainly uplifting). anyway, i'm doing okay and i'll keep all of y'all posted on what's going on. teh.

Hey! I hope your dad is ok. Sounds like your parents aren't too flumoxxed by the whole thing, which is a good sign.

wow. im sorry to hear this news!!
you know what though? my dad had 2 "cardiac events." they werent technically heart attacks, but the doctors didnt know what to call them. he had problems b/c he ate too much, ate too much bad stuff, he was fat and didnt exercise. he would be good for awhile right after the event, but eventually go back to his old bad habits. yeah, so he had 2 events and then 1 real heart attack. so fucking scary and sad. the real heart attack did change him for good though. hes not perfect, but much better. and not at risk anymore.
honey, i hope your dad gets well fast and does whatever he needs to do to stay healthy!!
