books 2009: The Bloody Chamber, by Angela Carter

This is a fabulous collection of short stories: lovely dark gothic sensual fairy tales populated with characters like Bluebeard, Beauty, Little Red, Puss in Boots, and vampires and werewolves. I think Puss was probably my favorite, just because of the voice (exactly the way a very self-satisfied cat would speak!), but all of them had a dark disturbing edge and were really fun to read. Recommended.
