books 2009: We, by Yevgeny Zamyatin

Ursula K. Le Guin calls this the best science fiction novel ever written, so I had to read it. It's a precursor to (and an inspiration for) Orwell's 1984, which I hated, but I did not hate this book--Zamyatin's protagonist is very human and real. Definitely a worthwhile read.
