I, uh, finished this a couple days ago. These books go by so fast it's hard to remember to post them. Anyway, this book brings the plot cycle of books 2 and 3 to a close. That plot cycle got on my nerves a bit because, realistically? if Will had been captured by Skandian raiders, taken through a battle, and sold into slavery, he would have died like fourteen times over. Also, Evanlyn would probably have been violated repeatedly--we're talking about freakin' Vikings here, that's what they thought female slaves were good for. But this is a kids' book, and that's a good thing, and a very convenient thing, when the king's daughter in hiding gets kidnapped and she gets to go home at the end whole and healthy. ANYWAY, I'm glad that Erak turned out to be a decent sort of Viking raider who takes care of his slaves. I thought the series got back onto stronger footing in this book, which gets Will and Evanlyn out of slavery and back to what they do well. I also liked the ending of this book and found it very satisfying (Ragnak's death was awfully convenient, but the scene at the end where they sail into the harbor was really nice). For that scene, and for wrapping up this long plotline, the book gets 4 stars from me. Because I really am enjoying these.
