I finished my present for Amy. I first got the idea for this project back in November. Now it is finished and I am so, so proud of it. I really hope Amy likes it.

Overall, I'm really pleased with how this turned out. I worked hard on it, and I think it looks good. I'm also glad it's totally finished a few weeks before the shower so I don't have to worry about it. I hope Amy likes it!

For my secret project.

To those of y'all who are crafty: Would someone be willing to make for me a Thanksgiving turkey scaled for Barbie-sized consumption? I wouldn't care what it's made of as long as it looks decently turkey-like. I would need it by August 5 or so. I'll even pay you... something. If you think you could do it, drop me an email, ok? Thanks!

::edit:: Never mind, Fritz totally rocks my world and found me one on ebay. I'd looked there before but didn't have any luck searching on "barbie turkey", which is a really random strange search even for ebay, so I'd kind of given up finding one through that avenue. But hey, $2 including shipping! Awesome!

So now I should be all set, unless someone wants to make a Ken-sized apron with lederhosen on it. Yeah, I think I'm going to skip that accessory.

I've been working on the supersecret Amy project.

I ordered Beautiful Bride Barbie and Handsome Groom Ken from ebay. They're perfect. If I remove the stupid pink wedding cake from Barbie's box, I'll have plenty of room to put up the alien wedding painting. I had a wallet-sized one mounted at a frame shop and it looks awesome. I'm planning to alter Barbie Amy's dress, but not until Amy has a much more solid version of her dress finished. Then I can make Barbie Amy's dress look more like Real Amy's.

I also ordered Barbie's cat. It took a while to find one that even remotely resembled Max. I think I'll have to color his collar black or something. Although Max is kind of gay. The kitty will be going in the box with Barbie. I also found an Amy green Barbie purse, but I haven't received it yet.

Ken Tom is going to be easier to do--I just have to dig out one of my Jem dolls' guitars from the attic and put it in there with him. I looked for Barbie-sized lederhosen aprons, with no success of course, but I wasn't expecting any. Then I looked for Barbie-sized plain white aprons, but apparently Barbie doesn't spend much time in the kitchen these days. All the aprons I found on ebay were vintage and therefore pretty pricey. I might still try to make a Barbie-sized apron out of white fabric and then draw the lederhosen on it, but since this will require not only me drawing but also me cutting fabric, this might not end up being a good idea. If someone else feels competent to do this, be my guest. I think Ken Tom will look Tomly enough with a just a guitar, and maybe a turkey if I can find one.

Hee! I'm excited about this project. :)

Okay, so Amy inadvertently gave me an awesome idea for a present for her. She was talking about how disturbed she was to see a Fairy-Tale Wedding Barbie at TJ Maxx or something, and I thought, Holy crap Amy needs that. And then I thought, how much better would it be if I carefully removed Barbie from the box, customized her like whoa, and then put her back in so that she would now be Dream Wedding Amy Barbie. And then I thought I could also do Dream Wedding Groom Tom, and how freakin' cute would this be.

The problem is that Dream Wedding Groom Tom would be significantly easier to do. Find a Barbie-sized white apron, draw some lederhosen on it, put it on him over his tux, and put him back in the box with a turkey and one of my old Jem doll's sparkly guitars, and there you go. But Dream Wedding Amy Barbie is a lot harder! I was thinking I could use that painting that they got for free and take the digital pic of it from Amy's lj, print it out, do a tiny little frame job on it, and put that in the box. I could also attempt to modify Barbie's engagement ring, but that thing is tiny so I don't know if I could manage. I could also add some color to Barbie's dress with a marker.

So if you were designing Dream Wedding Amy Barbie, what would you include??

::edit:: The more I think about this, the more complicated it gets. Like, I'll need to make a more appropriately Amyish bouquet for the doll, and find an appropriately fat and fuzzy Barbie-sized grey cat. I also thought I might include a small gauzy bag of white Barbie shoes, with a little sign on them that says "these came out of my butt!" or something. (Because Amy's always saying she doesn't have to poop dyeable shoes to be a bride--didn't want to scare all y'all out there who don't actually know her.) And modifying Barbie's dress, perhaps adding lacy sleeves or something, would have to be done after Amy buys her own dress, so that they match. I really do have a lot of ideas, I'm excited about this. But I think I will have to push it back to be a bridal shower gift, rather than a Christmas gift.
