So last night I re-installed iTunes. Then I uninstalled it, then re-installed it again, uninstalled it, re-installed it, uninstalled it, and re-installed it. The winning version: 9.0! Apparently the latest versions of iTunes include some sort of files that stay on your computer even after you uninstall it to prevent you from reinstalling a much earlier version (two of those re-installs were 6.2 and 7.0, and the installation seemed to go fine until I tried to start up the program and got an error message saying that iTunes was missing some files and needed to be re-installed--and no amount of clicking "repair" would correct it--hence the installation party). Silly me, here I thought that when the system asked me "Would you like to completely remove iTunes from your computer?" and I clicked "Yes", that it would then completely remove the program and leave no files behind. But the 9.0 install went fine, and I was able to plug in an old version of my iTunes library so I didn't even lose my playlists, and then (the true test) I plugged in my ipod and they connected beautifully! My ipod now contains new music from The National and Dawes, and one edited yoga playlist and two new ones. And that's pretty much all I've been trying to do for the past two weeks, so, score. Thumbs up to oldapps.com, which wins the Rox Prize for Most Useful Website Ever.

victory! old apps is, indeed, da bomb. every time my comp asks if i want to update my itunes, i tell it to go to hell. i'd rather not even use itunes, but haven't found a program i like as much as winamp for the mac.

I refused to update my iTunes for ages, and then when I did start accepting the updates regularly, it stopped functioning. Thanks, Apple! Never updating it again. Winamp is excellent stuff (but I haven't updated my winamp in years either). :)

Crap Cleaner is a good little program for getting all the hidden stuff out of the registry after an uninstall. If I had not used it with iTunes and Quicktime (once Quicktime was installed it had to be removed completely and iTunes had to be installed first or neither program would work on Windows 7) I'd still be fighting with those programs. I have not tried my iPod with iTunes yet, so hopefully it will work!

Just in case you do not already know about it.

That's interesting--I didn't know about it. Thanks!

You are welcome. My friends list has helped me out so many times I can't count it all anymore.
