weekend weekend
Oct. 18th, 2004 01:15 pmI'm having lo mein for lunch, left over from dinner last night, when my meal arrived late and I had already stuffed myself on everyone else's food (not to mention popcorn and brownies earlier) and hardly ate any of my own dinner. So that means I've got two lunches' worth of lo mein. Yum. Also, I have to remember how much I liked Kat's ginger chicken. And those green beans! Hellayum.
I had a good weekend. Friday I hid in my room and read pages and pages of stuff about the Incas. Saturday, worked at Otis, read more Inca stuff, gave three tours in a row and consequently felt hoarse. Came home, read more Incas, went to Amy's party. Very much enjoyed the spiked cider, even if it wasn't Dickens. (We really should explain that joke to poor Tom (who actually went out to the kitchen to check if it was Dickens for us, which made us cackle insanely).) The party was very fun. I'm so glad T & A are all settled in now. Sunday, finished yet another article about the Incas, then went to Darxus's for fantasy movie watching. We missed Annie and Bey, but they had more important stuff to take care of just then. We watched three movies: Willow, Legend, and The Last Unicorn.
Willow: I watched this with Jorn in Greensboro, so I saw it not that long ago, but it was still fun to watch. And later, I imdb'ed it and discovered that Joanne Whalley, who played Sorcha, played Fan in my all-time favorite version of A Christmas Carol, (1984, with George C. Scott as Scrooge). I knew I recognized her from somewhere!
Legend: It had been years and years since I saw this movie. I didn't even remember what it was about besides Tom Cruise and a princess and some evil. I really enjoyed it (which is a good thing, since I purchased it for this occasion). We watched the director's cut with the original orchestral soundtrack, and I think I might sometime soon watch the theatrical release with the Tangerine Dream soundtrack just to see what it's like. And dude, this movie was totally covered in glitter. This movie poured glitter over its head and then jumped around in it with its leather pants down, and any movie that evokes that image in my head must be a good movie. It was visually very pretty. I like things that are pretty. (And, dude, does anyone else think that Angel season 4's Beast is totally gakked from Tim Curry in this movie? Whoa.)
The Last Unicorn: I also bought this movie for this occasion, which I'd been meaning to do for a while. I have a taped-off-the-TV-with-the-original-1980s-commercials version, but I wanted something to keep for posterity. I was a little concerned because all the amazon reviews of the dvd edition said that the audio track was really terrible, but I didn't have any problems with it. I'll be happier when they finally release The Flight of Dragons on dvd, but hey. Oh, and did you hear that they're making a live-action version of The Last Unicorn? Here's what imdb says about it. Seems odd they've cast Jonathan Rhys-Meyers as Schmendrick instead of as Prince Lir, since I most certainly paired Schmendrick with Molly Grue, and Mia Farrow is a bit old for him. But they've got Christopher Lee, Angela Lansbury, and Rene Auberjonois back for this new version, so it can't go too badly.
My favorite line of the night:
Q: Where does King Haggard keep the Red Bull?
A: In the fridge!
In other news, the Kipster is keeping me hopping. And I'm a little concerned about this paper for class, since I read all those articles so fast they're all sort of blending together. I'll get it outlined tonight, at least, and hopefully chunks of it written. It's just a little five-pager but it *is* the first paper I've had to write in two years. I'll be glad when it's done.
