Wait, wait...wasn't Google maps the one that if you searched for the Moon, and did the satellite option, and zoomed in really close, you'd see a cartoony cheese? Or was that another map thing?
I find it amusing that they thought it was a shorter trip to drive all the way up to Quincy, MA before plunging into the Atlantic Ocean for the 3,462 mile swim.
Google Maps (and all the map services) work by having a big database with routes and start and end points. So, someone added the route from Boston to France via swimming, and so trans-Atlantic requests find it and use it. Even if you wanted to go from, say, Florida to Venice.
