productive last night, and a big Heroes rant

Last night I:

- stopped at the library, returned two books I'd read, and picked up four new ones (two were on hold for me, and the other two were exciting surprises).
- did yoga for almost an hour!
- typed up a draft of an essay. When it's a little more polished, I'd like to send it to someone to read (warning: graphic and hilarious menstrual details). Any volunteers? (pocketwitch, I'm sending it to you whether you volunteer or not.) ::edit:: okay, *I* think it's hilarious, but I'm not making any promises. It might just be disturbing.
- cooked crab alfredo cavatappi (aka "crabby pasta"), now with spinach. I have leftovers for dinner tonight.
- watched Chuck and Heroes

Okay, so Heroes surprised me twice last night. The first time was when the Wonder Twins picked up Sylar in the street. I did not see that coming. I am kind of scared for the poor Wonder Twins, although Sylar doesn't show any signs of killing them yet. I guess he's waiting until he can get his powers back (his stolen ones, I mean--his own tick-tock power seems to be working fine).

The second time I was surprised was when the man in the photo was Matt's dad. I knew that people's parents were a big thing in this, and that Hero-ism runs in families, but I don't know why I wasn't thinking about Matt's parentage.

Did anybody get a good look at the rest of the photo? Was Nichelle Nichols in it? I didn't see her, but maybe I missed it. Or maybe DL is related to Charles? Because obviously all the black people have to be related to each other. Simone didn't have any powers, though. I wonder what Nichelle Nichols can do.

I like "As Seen On TV" girl. I think it's interesting that her power is technology-related like Micah's, although we haven't seen that trend in any Hero families before. I wonder if she can do anything she sees happen, or if it has to be on TV?

Why are they recycling powers already? Nathan can fly. Why is West's power also flying? Although Nathan seems to zoom, while West more floats. If similar powers can run in Hero families, then perhaps we'll find out that West is also Nathan's illegitimate child, and Claire is doomed to love only men she is somehow related to.

Oh, and Claire's cheesing me off. Yes, your dad did some crappy things. You knew that. And you watched him take a bullet to keep you safe. That man loves you, and he's going through hell to hide you. So tell your freakin' dad. Say, "Yes, actually, there is a boy, but you've already met him: his name is West and he can fly. I like him and we're not moving again, so how do you want to handle this?" I guess she's just conflicted about Dad's past, and doesn't want to have to move again and leave West, but she's setting up long-term deceptions here. And Daddy's going to figure it out. He's quick like that. I just am worried that Dad's imminent death is going to somehow be Claire's fault and that she'll carry that guilt forever. He's not a perfect man, but he's a good father, and he deserves better than her lying to him. Wow, a year ago I never would've thought I'd be defending Creepy Glasses Man. Also, West needs to know. Claire can never maintain this. West is already sneaking around looking in windows, he's going to spot her dad eventually. This is a big disaster waiting to happen. I mean, obviously, Isaac painted it that way.

When I saw her in action, I assumed her powers were similar to Taskmaster's, a second-tier Avengers villain. He has "photographic reflexes", and can imitate any physical skill he sees performed.

It'll be interesting if she can only do it with stuff seen on TV, but I don't think that's the way they'll go. Suffice to say, she could have a fantastic career as a tennis pro.

Hmm. Did you see her eyes, though, when she looked at the TV? I guess only time will tell if her eyes do that when she sees something cool in the real world.

HA! That totally crossed my mind too! Poor Claire. Although her lying is annoying me right now. But I can understand her confusion on who she can trust.

But I want more Peter! He's all kinds of HOTT this season, where he wasn't before...to me. :P

I have been all about Peter right from the beginning. Mmm. You were probably turned off by the floppy hair. The man is hot, though.

I like Chuck! It's fun. At least once an episode he comes out with some ridiculously funny line. Last night it was "You're looking a little red there" as he ran across the pool. I'll probably keep watching if it keeps surprising me like that. And he is darn cute.

Wasn't into Peter at the beginning, but he grew on me as he gained more powers and got all superhero - but yeah, I wasn't into the hair. Now he's turned into serious hottness! All muscle-y and sweaty and bad-boy. *drool* Made even hotter when he got tattooed. But then it morphed and healed right away which totally cracked me up!

I think Claire is more worried about West finding out that her dad is HRG than she is worried about HRG finding out about West. I do think she's being stupid but I also think she's acting very much like a teenager.

I totally called that Matt's dad was one of the 12. I said, "that's Matt's dad" and then 20 seconds later Matt said, "that's my father". I am so smrt- SMRT!

I was also surprised that the Wondertwins picked up Sylar. I found it quite interesting that he introduced himself as Gabriel. Has he left Sylar behind and now he is something new?

I was slightly disappointed (but not really) that Sylar ended up in civilization. I was sure he was on the Lost island and how could would that be? Sylar and all his wacky powers would fit right in on Lost, plus he's way better looking and waaaaay scarier than Benry.

Next week- Kristen Bell!!!!! IMMASOEXCITED!!!!

Yeah, I thought it was significant that he introduced himself as Sylar. Maybe he thinks because he can't do Sylar stuff, he isn't Sylar? I like Gabriel better anyway, but he's definitely unpredictable at present.

I really, really wanted Sylar to just be wandering in the woods for the next six episodes. We'd check in on him once or twice an episode, and it would just Sylar, a tree, very quiet, maybe a bird chirping or something, and he'd be sitting there looking pissed off, and then we'd go back to everyone else. I think that would have been an awesome plotline.

I'm not on the Kristen Bell Party Train. I'm not sure how I feel about her showing up on Heroes. I feel like Heroes is doing a little bit of a LOST season 3 where all of sudden we have all these new characters that we don't care about yet. I do care about the Wonder Twins now, but I'm wondering how many more new characters they can throw at us and how many new powers they can come up with. Also, it looks like Kristen's going to be heading for Peter's pants, and I'm so not in favor of anyone (except me) doing that.

Also, West already knows that glasses man is Claire's father, right? She said it, when he was all like, there was this creepy guy, and she was like, "That's my dad. He's way overprotective."

No, West totally doesn't know it's Claire's dad. I remember the line you're talking about, and I think it was obvious to the viewer why Claire came out with "my dad!" right after West was talking about HRG, but I don't think it would have been obvious to West. I think he would be, um, upset if he knew.

I like West! I am cringing inside because I'm worried about those two crazy kids.

But I don't think Claire's dad knows it's West specifically, just boys in general. I don't think you can see West's face in the painting, just Claire's face. And West said his family moved to that town from somewhere else, after he'd been tagged by Claire's dad, so dad probably doesn't have a clue West is in that town or he probably wouldn't have picked it.

I didn't get to watch Heroes until last night, so I'm late to the party here... but I felt like saying something about it.

I'm actually liking the Wonder Twins, waiting to see what will happen with them trekking north with Sylar/Gabriel (I'm also fairly sure that he introduced himself as Gabriel just in case they hear mention of this totally evil 'brain-eating' crazy dude who is presumed dead along the way. He's keeping himself safe, so they think he's just a nice normal-ish guy wanting to help them out.)
Claire is being an idiot, but yeah, she's a teenager so she's hormonal and prone to trust boys and not her parents, no matter what she's gone through. I do still want to slap her. And I'm worried that West is Up To No Good... somehow. There's something that's bugging me about him, which may or may not be the fact that he seems 8 feet taller than Claire (seriously, is Hayden a midget or WHAT?), but he's also been pretty damn obnoxious. Claire deserves a bit of happy though.
The Parkman/Daddy angle was a surprise to me, but I love that he's got something pretty solid to do now - he hasn't had a real connection with the storyline aside from the My Two Dads bit with Mohinder. I also wonder if he's going to be able to develop his power a bit more and instead of just hearing other people's thoughts, will he be able to communicate with Molly while she's stuck inside her head? That would be damn cool.

I'm excited for Kristen Bell, I've heard her character is at least 10 shades of crazy, so that should be pretty fun to watch.

You know what, you're right about Parkman. I think a lot of his role in the storyline has been trying to figure out what's going on in the storyline--he's been more of a secondary character while Peter, Claire, Hiro, etc have been carrying the main plot. I like it that Parkman's getting to the center of things. And I love that you're calling it the My Two Dads bit. That's awesome.
