I don't usually make resolutions, but I've been pondering this for a while, since my small group meeting last month. This year, it makes sense for me to make some resolutions.

I will strive to practice yoga three times per week. My goal is 130 yoga sessions in 2009--an average of 2.5 sessions per week.

I will increase my charitable donations and will give at least $20 per month.

I will sweep the floor weekly.

I will spend more time outdoors.

Even with everything that will be happening in the next few months, these are achievable goals, and appropriate ones. They are the sorts of goals that, if I can keep to them, will result in serious improvements to my emotional wellbeing.

Ideally, I'd practice three times a week, for one hour per session, for a total of three hours per week. But sometimes I just do short sessions of 30 or 45 minutes, and I don't want to stress myself out over that. Hence, counting each practice and not the total time practiced.

Yay healthy goals!!

indeed -- i like your counting sessions method. my fear is that i'd slack off and do a lot of short sessions if i went that route.

we are teh buff, sexy, and centered. ;)

Are there outdoor yoga groups? I know in Ohio there were people doing Tai Chi outdoors.

There are. I know there's a yoga class in the Morris Arboretum in June and July--I did that a year and a half ago and it was lovely, but last year they upped the price. I will have to look into this more.

It would check two things off of your list.

Does the charity thing include museums? It should.

Agreed. I enjoyed outdoor yoga very much when I was able to do it. I've just felt kind of dumb about going outside to practice in, like, the courtyard of my building.

Yes, it does. In a month or two, when finances are better, I want to renew my art museum membership, and maybe get a couples membership to include F. (I hardly ever go, so I consider it a donation.)

You could make it a date thing. Theater subscriptions might work too. There's also Longwood Gardens.

I signed up a few months ago to have a monthly donation automatically deducted from my account to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. It feels awesome!

When I was totally poor, making less than $5 and living in my first apartment I managed to write a check to an animal shelter in Denver for $5 every month. If I could do that then, I can afford to give monthly now. :)

I so need to do regular yoga.

F is really good about charitable donations, and it makes me feel like a slacker. It's something I can afford to do, so why aren't I doing it?

Regular yoga = win.
