I am now officially caught up on Heroes and LOST. We missed last week's episodes, and I had been really worried that I wouldn't have time to catch up and would be really behind. But we're caught up!
Thoughts on LOST: Okay, holy OMFG. I kind of love that they're taking the island to a mystical level--back in the first season, the writers were insisting that everything could be explained, and now? It's totally sci fi, and that's awesome. I love that Smoke Monster *could* be explained scientifically, possibly (with the electrical charge, possibly an unknown life form?), but I especially love that Smoke Monster now has more depth of character. It's not just a mindless island defender. It's the voice of the island, the judge, the conscience, as well as the protector.
I love that shit is coming together--like the essence of Otherness is getting explained. There's something in the temple that inspires Otherness, inspires a fanatical dedication to what's best for the island. This is why the Others are totally fucked up, why, when they saw a plane crash, the first instinct was infiltration, not helping the injured like normal people would do. The Others have a connection to the island, they know that nothing happens on the island without a reason, without the island knowing, and they act accordingly. I cannot tell you how much the Other behavior has bothered me, and how much better I am feeling about it now. These people are messed in the head as a result of Other initiation. And the temple? If, as Richard said, whatever happens in the temple makes you an Other, then that's why poor Danielle's menfolk flipped out. I wonder what would have happened if she'd gone with them into the temple? Would she have become an Other? Would she have been killed? Her menfolk tried to kill her and Ben was told to kill her, so presumably that's what the island wanted.
Also, can I tell you how much I love the temple? It's an ancient jungle temple! With hieroglyphs! If there wasn't a real-life smoke monster I would totally want to go indiana jonesin' in there.
I also really appreciate Kate's actions with Aaron. He should be with his grandma. And hello, somebody *should* find Claire. Although, she was seen with Christian--does that mean she's dead? Or, is Christian not-dead-anymore the same way Locke is? I thought of Christian right away when Ben said he'd never seen this happen before--it HAS happened before, dude.
Locke is looking really good right now, by the way. Very healthy and alive. In contrast to Ben, who looks like total crap as a result of his righteous ass-kicking at the hands of Desmond. Go Desmond go! Awesome familial defense! Desmond is my favorite! I'm so glad the Humes are all safe.
I find it interesting, though, that it's entirely Kate's fault that Ben turns out the way he does. Ben was a pain in the neck kid before--but now he won't be a kid anymore, he'll be an Other, and it's all Kate's fault. Interesting that Ben doesn't remember seeing the Lostaways when he was a kid--OK, Kate, Jack, Sayid, and Hurley might have been wiped from his immediate memory, since they arrived just before he was injured (and so I assume they'll leave before he's healed and has a chance to see them again?), but wouldn't he remember Sawyer and Juliet and Jin? Although maybe his adult fixation on Juliet comes from a childhood crush on her?
In that same line, I absolutely LOVED the Hurley time travel conversation. Awesome, awesome stuff on the part of the writers. Very meta. Loved it. Where IS the science guy, though?
Thoughts on Heroes: OK, Angela, we've dug up two bodies now, why can't you just SAY how many more there are? Why do we have to dig them ALL up? Is there something you want to do with the bones? Poor Nathan and Peter. I'm guessing they have a lot more digging to do.
I feel really bad for Noah right now. Yeah, he's acted like an asshole, but he didn't deserve the assholery Sylar pulled on him. I am amused, though, that in Comcast On Demand's plot summaries, he's still referred to as HRG. HA.
I **LOVE** the Matt Parkmans together. How excellent! And I'm so very happy that baby Matt turned Hiro's powers back on.
I'm still really annoyed that Peter can only hold one power at a time. Maybe, once a person has lost their power and had it restored, the power is weaker? This would also explain why Hiro can't teleport anymore. I wonder if Hiro and Ando combined their powers if the teleport would work again?
HA HA Danko you asshole. I hope she flies back to the damn Ukraine or wherever and never sees your sorry ass again.
