We were up past 11:00 last night, so getting up this morning was painful. First the lamp on the timer turned on too early (we just cannot get that thing set right), then my alarm went off at 6:18 and again at 6:27. We were really sleepy and grumpy and silly. (For example, did you know that peeing first thing in the morning is similar to a U.N. council meeting? (Both events take forever!) From now on every time F uses the bathroom I'm going to ask him how the meeting went.) But we hauled ourselves out of bed and got dressed and out the door by 6:45. Unfortunately, I was a complete wuss. I was still sore from yesterday morning's yoga, and my body was just unhappy. We did exactly the same jogging route as last week but I crapped out less than 10 minutes in. I am really really bad at jogging, you guys. I walked briskly, though, and F trotted along beside me. We actually went a couple blocks farther than we did on the last jog, but we were only walking briskly. I don't know which is better, more jogging but a shorter workout, or a longer workout but with less jogging. Less jogging is probably better for the knees, but I don't know about the overall health picture. Anyway, we got back at exactly 7:15, and I still had time to shave my legs and have a nice breakfast with F before leaving to catch the train at 8:15. And then I had tea when I got to work.

Depending on how brick your walking briskly speed is, it might be a wash. I know that the reason I don't jog is beacuse I would rather be able to got for a walk tomorrow too, and my knees will leave me for another less abusive woman if I make them jog.

More seriously - Pam my former roommate the triathlete would jog to warm up before lifting, but she told me I might as well just walk, because my brisk walking was about the same speed as her slow jog, and if I sprint then I can't breathe.

And half and hour of aerobic exercise is half an hour, whether you're walking briskly or biking or jogging or whatever. If you went farther in this half hour than in last weeks half hour, then you were going faster overall, yes?

(Also also, I am totally anti-jogging because of my knees, but totally pro-walking. Take all this with a grain of salt.)

On a related note, my Dad has finally learned that exercise is healthy! Way to go Dad!

(And on a different and more related note, I should go for a wlak or something today)

Last week, we actually didn't make it for a full half hour--we got back a little early. But today we did the whole 30 minutes and made it an extra couple of blocks, so I'd say it's an improvement. Last week I was slow jelly when I stopped jogging, but this week I was able to keep a nice brisk walking pace.

Go Dad! And go take that walk!

I'm so bad at jogging! I can run for 20 minutes, but I've been doing that for about a month and a half now. I know it's bad to plateau, but I still feel as lousy after twenty minutes now as I felt when I first started running all those weeks ago.

You're not alone! Not all of us are those amazing marathon people. But we keep trying - that's gotta count for something!

Feeling lousy is no good! Why do you jog? I mean, jogging in particular, rather than walking or aerobics or swimming or something? Is it just that your school schedule is so wonky that jogging is what you can fit in?

I am all about determination! Here's hoping I can keep up the early morning schedule!

My mom does power-walking type stuff and that works great for her - she has a bad knee and a bad hip. I say get a heart rate monitor. Then you will really know for sure if you're keeping your heart rate up enough for aerobic or cardio exercise.

I have no idea how much these cost - my mother insisted on giving me one when I went to college so I would be guilted into using it.
