Holy crap this show just keeps getting better.
The last five minutes were... amazing. EvilDaddy wasn't really evil! He was a bad man who eviscerated a lot of people (I know I heard them say "evisceration" in one of the flashbacks), but he really does love his little girl. That last look at her! Just to see through the flashbacks how his character evolved into a real father over the years was so well done. He got shot and gave up his memories permanently to save her. So well done. Bennet turned out to be a far more complex character than I ever thought, and the actor is doing a phenomenal job of portraying him.
The moment when Claire walked out of the house, superconfident with all her flesh melted off and growing back? Totally awesome.
This episode was really successful, I thought. I liked how we stuck with the one storyline throughout--like we would have cared what was happening to anyone else anyway. I'm interested to see what's going to happen with Parkman's storyline after this, too--looks like he could have a new job. I was thinking that halfway through the episode, too. I liked seeing Ted really explore his powers, and I think Bennet's boss was a total dumbass for shooting Ted. Yeah, shoot the radioactive nuclear guy and see what happens. Ted has been just barely holding on to his power all this time, along with the not inconsequential rage and grief and despair, so yeah, great idea, shoot him and see what he does. Fucktard. I think Bennet's boss should go eat poo just on principle of being the guy who was in charge of all the crap Bennet did.
I am not surprised to find out that Hiro's dad has a larger role in all this. I mean, George Takei. Obviously not going to be a minor character. Obviously destined for great things. And little Hiro! So cute!
I like how this episode used a LOST-esque storytelling style and totally did it better than LOST has in like a year.
Next week we finally get to meet Linderman!! I can't freakin' wait. Bobbi and I (she called me at, like, 10:02 to talk about the episode) think that profile looked like Donald Sutherland. And I really hope Simone was just a guilty dream Peter was having (again, Bobbi's theory--she is SMRT!). I don't think Simone is a Hero too--I want her to be deaddeaddead. Peter is *my* boyfriend, dammit.
See, this is what LOST is trying to do and what they are not succeeding at. I don't know if LOST is giving us too little information or not the right information; whatever it is that they're doing wrong, I hope their writers were watching Heroes tonight and taking notes. This is what LOST should be doing. This is what LOST started out doing and then forgot how to do. Heroes is totally rocking right now--they're giving us actual answers, and gradually revealing information in a way that keeps us coming back but isn't totally frustrating. LOST gives us useless information that doesn't lead anywhere, but Heroes is actually posing questions, answering them in a satisfying way, and then letting that naturally lead to other questions. Tonight's episode was almost Whedonesque in its awesomeness. I love this show.

And little boy Hiro was so adorable. Now I'm wondering though if he was another "Claire", i.e. Takei isn't really his dad, just his keeper.
So much fun! What a great show!

Date: 2007-02-27 05:06 am (UTC)From:Totally agree about George. I am not at all surprised he is in on this from te beginning. I wonder if he knows about Hiro's ability since he is asking Claire's father to turn her over if she manifests.
Interesting Japanese element there. Claire's father speaks it fluently and Claude seems to also. It is not a language that is picked up rapidly. Then to have Claire's dad thinking in Japanese after all that time. Hmmm.
I am curious about Linderman also. I didn't see Sutherland in that back shot so I am eager to see if you are correct.
Eric Roberts played the meanie. In shooting Ted he was setting up to get what he wanted; all of the Bennett's dead except for Claire. He's not dumb, he just underestimated how involved Claire's dad had become. Eris is a pro at those kinds of parts. Don't let him fool you, he's such a good actor he can turn on a dime and be believeable as someone far more than what we saw in the brief flashbacks also.
Lost is such a mish-mash that if not for Desmond I'd have checked out long ago. I don't even expect to gain anything from it anymore. They are in too deep now and unless they spend a season explaining things (which they are not going to do) we will never see any sense made of it.
Wonder what Claire's neighbors thought as she came out the door! Wow, what a shot.
