Most of my flist who would be interested probably has [livejournal.com profile] fandom_grammar friended, but just in case you missed it. . . .

[livejournal.com profile] fandom_grammar is looking for some new Fandom Grammarians. If you think you have the passion for grammar and English language necessary to answer fandom's questions about how to be more knowledgeable readers and writers, check out this post at [livejournal.com profile] fandom_grammar for details.

We're looking to expand our knowledge base for dialects and regional usage, so we're specifically looking to add at least one grammarian who is familiar with the non-American rules of English.

We're open to adding up to 6 new Fandom Grammarians, so your position is just an application away!

Please feel free to pimp on your flist or court specific individuals. If you have any questions about the process or what we're looking for, please ask them at the application post.

Also, if anyone's interested, I wrote a new piece for [livejournal.com profile] fandom_grammar this week. Click here to see all my fandom grammar pieces.

This message is for all my fanfic and slash enthusiasts ([livejournal.com profile] pocketwitch, I'm looking at you in particular here, but I know there's more of y'all on my f-list who'd be into this). My friend [livejournal.com profile] theemdash is planning to start a fandom grammar community. Grammar questions answered and grammar explained through fandom examples! Articles and advice that will help people stop writing such crappy fanfic! Both fun and excitement! I'm going to be helping to mod this community, being as I am a giant grammar nerd. Em's original idea for the community is here, and she is planning things out here. Check it out if you'd be interested in reading the comm, or in writing for it. I'll post again when the community actually gets off the ground and I start writing for it. Whee!

Fridays are great! I can sleep in tomorrow!

I just watched this week's Lost. Read more... )

Today I petted the cat for half an hour. He looked like he wanted to come down off the window sill. I also picked him up and held him for a minute. I put him back down as soon as he started to squirm. He didn't run away and let me pet him again right away. I think that's a good sign.

I think I will take a bubble bath tonight!

There are lots of good things going on that I haven't been posting about.

- I won Scrabble last week and this week. (This week's awesome moment: Christine was considering putting down UZI, which isn't in the Scrabble dictionary, and I theorized that that's because it's a brand name, like XEROX, which Tariq pointed out is actually in the dictionary. He said he remembered that because one time he had the X and a blank tile and was able to play it. I looked down at my letters, which included the X and a blank tile. Tariq unwittingly set me up for it beautifully, and I played XEROX on my next turn for 38 points.)

- My cat now lets me touch him. He in fact is a downright little touch slut, but only when he's safe in an enclosed space. I have him figured out now--I can pet him like crazy when he's behind the TV or on the windowsill behind the microwave, and he'll be all purrpurrIloveyou. And this makes sense, because when we were petting him at the pet store, he was in his cage, which was enclosed and safe. Now I just have to make him feel safe elsewhere in the apartment. I have been gradually trying to lure him out from behind the microwave with scratching. He still refuses to be picked up, and really wants me to pet him with both hands but is still too scared to let me do that. But the petting, in general, is making me much happier with the situation. He is terrified of open spaces, not me.

- I received a box of chocolate in the mail. Dudes, take note: sending a girl a box of chocolate will earn you major points toward getting in her pants. (Well, *this* girl, anyway.)

- I did yoga last night even though I got home late and I was tired and totally didn't feel like it. Go me! And I felt better after the yoga. I'm all sore and stretchy today.

- I watched last week's LOST last night also (so that I'm only behind by one episode). Jin tells the best ghost stories EVER! And I still love Desmond.

- It's been pretty warm here all week. I wore pretty skirts and flip flops both Monday AND Tuesday.

- I scored a free ticket to go see Erin McKeown tonight - fourth row, too, right in the middle. I was planning on going even when it was going to cost $17.50, but now it's free! My dad gets major coolness points!

So, yes, good things are going on! I'm pleased.

Things I need to do, hopefully this weekend:
- pay bills, including mail a check for the rent which is due on Tuesday
- vaccuum (cat litter gets everywhere) and mop (cat food gets everywhere)
- clean the bathroom
- change the sheets and put the new comforter on the bed
- do the clothing switch and get out all my t-shirts and tank tops! so exciting!
- make the mix cds I've been thinking about
- buy cards for the children being baptized and communioned this weekend
- revise poems; send out submissions

Why the hell weren't you watching Heroes tonight? Yes, you. How many times have I told you that it's the best damn show on TV? Many times. Now you are missing out. You are missing out big time. GO DOWNLOAD THE EPISODES FOR GOODNESS SAKE! Although at this point you might as well just wait the four more weeks until the season's over and download it all at once. But I am telling you that this show is so good that you should not wait one more minute to start watching it.

For those of y'all who are smart and watch Heroes, some thoughts on tonight's episode. )

I just watched the She-Ra: Secret of the Sword movie. It's the movie that established the She-Ra/He-Man crossover and started She-Ra as its own show. And, oh wow. The cheesiness--I couldn't stop laughing. The She-Ra characters are really ridiculous. There's Beau, who carries... a bow (and has a little mustache!). The villain, Hordak, is a complete idiot, and so are the soldiers of the (what else?) Horde. Although Shadow Weaver, the evil sorceress, has eerily nice breasts. Several other female villains too, which is good, I suppose, She-Ra can't always be fighting the patriarchy. Back on the good side, there's a pink-haired character named Glimmer, whose mother, Queen Angella (an-GEL-ah), has big angel wings. There's so much pink just in general! And there was one moment, where Beau and He-Man are riding together on a horse through the (pink and purple) Whispering Woods, that was possibly The Gayest Thing I've Ever Seen. It trumped the time when Skeletor was humping Beast Man. Jorn, you have to rent this. Oh my GOD. And the song that plays during the credits! And don't even get me started on Madam the crazy old witch. Oh dearie my!

I am so incredibly pleased that I own this. I am even more pleased that there's a second disc full of the "best of" She-Ra episodes. Fun!

As much as the show LOST is making me mad these days, I'm still excited to hear that they're making more action figures. The first series is Jack, Kate, Charlie, Locke, Shannon, and Hurley; the second series is Sawyer, Mr. Eko, Jin, and Sun; and the third series (!) is SAYID, DESMOND, Claire, and Henry Gale. First series is available now; second series ships in July, and third series ships in October. I know I was trying to give up the action figure thing, but I... I think I need a little Desmond to call my own. Possibly a little Sayid as well. They haven't released promo pictures of the third series yet, so I'm going to wait to preorder until I can see if they did a good job sculpting them.

Holy crap this show just keeps getting better.

See, this is what LOST is trying to do and what they are not succeeding at. I don't know if LOST is giving us too little information or not the right information; whatever it is that they're doing wrong, I hope their writers were watching Heroes tonight and taking notes. This is what LOST should be doing. This is what LOST started out doing and then forgot how to do. Heroes is totally rocking right now--they're giving us actual answers, and gradually revealing information in a way that keeps us coming back but isn't totally frustrating. LOST gives us useless information that doesn't lead anywhere, but Heroes is actually posing questions, answering them in a satisfying way, and then letting that naturally lead to other questions. Tonight's episode was almost Whedonesque in its awesomeness. I love this show.

I had a delicious dinner tonight! This weekend Josh grilled up some very tasty asparagus, and so when I saw it on sale at the grocery store, I picked some up for myself. They also had Gorton's fish products on sale, so I stocked up on those too. For dinner I had garlic herb fish fillets and asparagus baked in garlic butter and olive oil. Yum yum! And not dreadfully unhealthy! Although I did eat all the asparagus and two fillets, which supposedly counts as two servings.

Yesterday was a good day. We slept in, had pancakes for breakfast, and then went to Costco. Amy and Josh got some stuff for their house, and I got a giant thing of vitamins (I was almost out, and they were cheap and I don't have a Costco membership to go get some at that price here at home) and a book. We sat around all afternoon--Amy took a nap, Sarah took a walk, I read my book on the comfy chair with the cats. Josh watched TV, I think. Last night we met Tammy and Uri and Chrysta and Corey for dinner at Buca di Beppo in downtown Denver. I had never eaten at one before, and it was pretty cool. We ordered tons of food and shared it all, and everything was delicious. My favorite was probably the dessert. Maybe Tammy will post pictures of it. :) It was great to see them and share some yummy food!

Today wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We did stay up too late last night talking, and then had to get up around 4AM this morning, so we were tired. And Sarah had a bit too much wine so she was extra tired. We left for the airport at 4:30, got there around 5:15, checked in, got Sarah a breakfast burrito, and our flight left (shockingly) on time. I had planned to go to work after we got back to Philly, but we landed about ten minutes late, which was just late enough that I missed the 1:12 R1 train to downtown Philly. We had to wait for the next one at 1:42, which meant that I wouldn't have gotten to work until 2:15, and I would have had to stay late to get in a half day's worth of hours, and it just wasn't worth it to me. Instead Sarah and I took the 1:42 to Suburban Station and hung out there until we could get on the R8 at 2:42 and go back to my house. She left right away to drive to her grandma's for dinner, and I had a relaxing afternoon. I went to the grocery store, and putzed around a bit, and made a nice dinner.

Just now I watched last night's Heroes. Peter is still my favorite character. Read more... )

I'll tell you, any episode that starts out with a sweaty Desmond running through the jungle and ripping off his shirt? That episode is okay by me.

Last night I got my dad hooked on Firefly. I put on the two-hour pilot, and at first he was wandering around a bit (all right, getting a compress for his bad elbow, which is of course forgivable), but then he wanted to watch The Train Job, and then I went out to walk the dog and he watched Bushwhacked. I came back in time for the end of it. So now he's all the way through the first disk. So far, Dad commented that River seemed "fragile", and he seems to be waiting for a big blowout between Jayne and Mal. But he wants to keep watching! So it appears that I'm going to have to leave my dvds at my parents' house until he's done. :) Then I will lend him the comic and we will watch the movie and there will be much rejoicing.

I pick up on more and more stuff watching it again. Like I totally didn't get the "two by two, hands of blue" connection at the end of Train Job before.
